Canadian musicians denounce suing music fans

Read more / Source: CTV
____________
Some of Canada's musical heavyweights want their fans to continue to be able to download songs without the fear of being sued.

A group of musicians -- including Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo and Broken Social Scene -- gathered in Toronto on Monday to hammer that message home to federal politicians who have begun to draft new laws to toughen copyright laws.

Some of the proposals being thrown around include making it illegal to share music online, which could lead to lawsuits. Artists call the move "destructive and hypocritical."

yep... and against something that has already had a bill made up..

we don't pay an extra tax on our media (burnable CD/Tapes/whatever will allow us to copy music/video), for nothing. That tax isn't even seen due to being applied from factory pretty much. In any case, it's there basically to cover the costs of copying.... anyways.... which was brought into effect a few dozen years ago when it was made clear that this could happen.. even with much older forms of copying... and i mean old.

Apparently they've forgotten all about it.

now copying it and then selling... = bad... but free transfers no problemo..

and seeing as the artists don't get a dime for most of the sueings down in the states anyways... i don't understand why people would be for it.

Anyone see that southpark episode? lol.. funny.... but somewhat true.
