Re: AMD RD890 shows up

yea... and they are too close to eachother for my liking.. blocking slots when you put cards in isn't a good thing..

they could take out 2 and still keep the quadro SLI/crossfire option open. (not sure which one it is)
but I like the easthetics and the color scheme

Yes, and at least four that are in a 8x/8x/8x/8x combo when it turns into multi-graphics card setup

Re: AMD RD890 shows up

anyone complaining about "to many pci-ex" slots should be shot imo.

You can't enough, the fact that reguardless of your setup, there will be a slot is great, Multiple single slot and dual slot cards is great, doesn't matter where you put them.

Re: AMD RD890 shows up

Uhu, there's nothing wrong with a lot of PCI-e. It's better than all those old PCI.. :o

And you can just place a 1x device in a 16x slot, so no problem

Re: AMD RD890 shows up

Exactly.. if i had my way..

every slot would be a pci-ex 16x 2.0 slot.... EVERY one of them.. and then build the PCI-ex Bus / lanes so that they are auto configurable so that reguardless of where you stick a device, the most amount of lanes are presented as useable, and very every additional device installed reguardless of where it is places, will have it's own as well, when the number of lanes required start to exceed what is available, then a down throttling to 8x lanes are set for additional cards to share.

Meaning if i wanted, i should be able to isntall 8 single slot video cards, and i think that would mean that 2 would be 8x and the rest would be 4x for a 40 lane pci-ex setup motherboard.

If i stick 4 cards in, one would be 16x and the 3 others would be 8x HOWEVER in the circumstance of say being able to manually configure the bios to dictate what slots provide a number of lanes changeable from 1x,4x,8x,16x as choices, Then i could set 2 video cards (lets say 2x 5970 video cards) for a use of 32x and a 3rd card being a Nvidia card for Physx for 8x.

or 4x for physx and 4x for a pci-ex audio device, or perhaps a raid adapter..

either way the more pci-ex slots.. the better, and if they can design a universal pci-ex lane system so that all slots could be configured to use as many lanes as possible for full bandwidth, the better.

I think the idea is to give you not access to PCIE express ports for graphics but to give you more express ports as other addin cards become available, Like sound cards etc.

Re: AMD RD890 shows up

Why is there one SATA port on the front of the motherboard and (I assume) six on the side? 8 ports I can understand (6 hard drives, 2 optical) but 7? Why 7?
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the blue rectangular thing is that is next to an RJ45 socket?

USB 3.0, 6-way PCI-E, Blu-Ray audio, DDR3, SATA-3 but it's AM3 rather than Core i9. What a jip :P

It has 8 SATA ports. One of them is an eSATA which is on the I/O panel. 6 white ones with 90 degree angle and just one ordinary blue one...

Dunno...hmm.. Maybe it's Bluetooth.
