Relic Entertainment, the studio behind the Warhammer series of games, has revealed that they will be dropping Games for Windows Live with the release of Warhammer 40 000 Dawn of War II: Retribution. The newest release in the series will be supported by Steamworks alone.
Previously, in Dawn of War II and the Chaos Rising expansion, players would have to log into both Steam and Games for Windows Live in order to play. The announcement yesterday that GFWL would no longer be a requirement was based on feedback from players. Relic’s Jeff Lydell told PCGamer that the only reason both were used in the first place was that Dawn of War needed features from both Steam and GFWL. Retribution will however be designed to take full advantage of the Steam platform.
