Broadcom launched HT-2000-chipset
Today (the 21st April of 2005) Broadcom launched a brandnew chipset based on the singlecore AMD Opteron-processor, with the name 'HT-2000'. Like the name says, this will be the successor of the HT-1000-chip. New features like a HyperTransport-bus are now integrated, and the chip will be able to be used with a maximum of eight CPUs at the same time. Also this chipset offers two integrated Gigabit Ethernet-controllers, 17 PCI-Express-lanes and support for PCI-X.
Whenever more I/O-interfaces are necessary, more HT-2000-chips could be activated beside eachother. To use the slower I/O-interfaces (like SATA, 32-bit PCI, and USB, - red.), the older HT-1000-chipset can be used. At this moment it is still unknown when the first products, based on the HT-2000-chip, will arrive on the market... (Source: Broadcom Corporation, 21 April 2005 ) Read the whole Pressrelease here. |
