The story at
Slashdot , a Mozilla
developer blog and other places...
Supposedly, the ping attribute will deliver tracking ability similar to redirects etc., without adding further delay.
In practice though, it's hard to see this extension from the
WhatWG (who?) receiving much take up, other than by those who would abuse it, especially as it seems so far to only be be implemented in development, in a minority browser where even if no native means of disabling it is provided, savvy users are likely to disable it by manual preference editing or even remove it from a compile of the open source code.
Why are the Mozilla team wasting time and effort implementing nonstandard html, instead of fixing bugs that need to be fixed?
