Re: Windows 7 Thread!

"I can't enable "mirrored mode" with these(ati windows 7 preview) drivers. Windows 7's own resolution screen gives error of some sort when trying to enable it and can't do it via cccp either because of missing "displays manager". I can't do this either by using vista drivers because cccp ain't working then at all.

I use this mode when playing while I have friends visiting me so I can show them my progress via tv screen so this feature is crucial for me. Any tips in enabling this?
"

That what I typed to another forum and also not being able to install daemon tools really bothers me. Otherwise I'm truely liking it.

Dualbooting windows xp/7.

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

I have only been running for a couple of days but it feels like I can use this as my main operating system. I have been surprised to see a number of programs not running or installing right even without UAC on. Perhaps there's been some changes to particularly the installation routines with Windows 7 or there is still some beta code that needs to be improved before the finished product. Certainly this is a beta after all but I didn't expect such problems between Vista and Windows 7, and with early Vista such problems were almost all about either UAC or a driver related problem as far as I can remember.

I'm currently looking for a simple and cleanly designed launchbar/launchpad application that will mimic the functionality of the shortcut toolbars that we could pin to the sides of a screen since Win95. (In Vista we could pick a folder or computer icon and pull it to the edge of the screen.) There's one called ProgramLaunch that is almost right except it's always stealing focus which is not so good.

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

give the ati catalyst 8.11 or 8.12 for vista a try ... they should install fine....

the intel i7 core 920 scores 7.4 on the vista score system for cpu .. and the ddr3 triple channel 7.5

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

It works on my 2.8 P4 with 1 gig...... it crashed once and couldn't recover so I reinstalled completely.... it doesn't like my dual soundcards.... it was microsoft's updated soundcard drivers that crashed the system.

It's a "pretty" OS but XP is doing what I need on this old equipment.

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

I won't be going through the Beta since the last time I went through Beta (Vista) the ATI drivers physically destroyed two X850 Pro's I had so I'm a little leery about installing beta drivers on cards that I can't afford to replace right now.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with setting up Raids on it yet. Just curious.

From the sounds of things across the net, Win 7 has been a pretty positive thing so I'm looking forward to this OS coming out.

I'm also wondering if anyone has installed or using DOS Box on it (us it periodically in XP to run Shadow Warrior and Duke Nukem- one liners are priceless in each game).

As I mentioned, I'm looking forward to this OS so I'm glad some of you guys are enjoying it.

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

currently running a raid array on windows 7.... actually 2 systems..

running 8.12 catalysts for vista on it.

realtek 2.14 vista drivers on it.

ms office 2003 on it

just about everything i have in vista usualy is on it.. even some of the games which work beautifully

the octo-monitor display actually was quite easy to setup in win7.

as far as dos goes.... never use it ... the cmd prompt usually only gets use for backward capability loading for older win games (affinity trick) or tracert/ping ipconfig tools

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

running windows 7 on my system, real nice actually, have all my drivers working correctly (yes even the PAX drivers work, just not the installer)

it seems a suitable replacement for my main OS so far.... everything runs great, even crysis and crysis warhead

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

Two of the "same" cards, or two different kinds? Mine are the same except for the model number.... Microsoft see's them as the same though, always has, MS can't tell the difference. On my system Win 7 BSOD's when using their "updated driver" for audio...... Without sound no BSOD, with other drivers no BSOD. Sure seems like a win7 issue with my sound hardware.

No biggy..... they aren't going to be selling me an OS anytime soon unless it comes on a new piece of hardware...... which, by the way, I'm not planning on buying anyways.

7 wouldn't install on my Areca ARC-1220. After loading the drivers it would see the array and partitions however it wouldn't install on it. I ended up having to do a fresh Vista install, then do an upgrade to get 7 installed. Although I deleted it within a few hours as it was way to unresponsive for me.

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

First post. Hopefully not my last. I've been very impressed with 7 so far, but after Vista I wasn't sure if my expectations have been lowered. So far everything I have tried works, although I have (by today's standards) a very basic machine (amd 4200x2 1950pro agp etc) `it all works. Which is the first issue for me. What has suprised me is that my usb wireless adapter works. With Vista it would lose the drivers after every restart and need a fresh install every boot up and this was on the full version of Vista not just the beta. The beta of Vista nothing worked at all, well I could play Mahjong, but the rest was pants. The little tweaks such as the snapping windows to the sides for comparing websites or documents, i is really, really useful and I didn't realise how useful it was until I booted into XP and forgot I couldn't do it. The lack of warnings every five seconds is great too and I don't understand why this childish hand holding nonsense was introduced in Vista.

Generally the Beta is a very good one. Far better than Vista and so far, far more stable, less system hungry and much quicker. I do think that Microsoft have an uphill struggle to get people to buy this when released considering the bad press of Vista but from what I've seen so far, I would definitely consider upgrading to 7 when it's released.

System Specs

Re: Windows 7 Thread!

I have it installed on my Sony Vaio (3.2Ghz Pentium D 940, 4GB DDR2 and a nVidia 7600GT) and it's working better then the XP-MCE that came with the computer. I'm impressed.
