Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
Is Microsoft ignoring beta tester feedback in its quest to ship Windows 7 come hell or high water in 2009?

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
i'll be PISSED as hell if they don't fix the major problems i've come across in win7 that i've been quite laid back about due to it's beta state. Still stable enough to use as a main os...
I've made several feedbacks, from the creating new folders in the all users start programs resulting in the ability to rename it let alone move files and folder around it without major issue. to requesting a refreshrate slider/pulldown menu in the main display settings window (i still don't understand WHY they don't make that available right there, in your face, cause nothing is more annoying then changing resolution and finding the refresh rate is unsupported, and you can't change the refresh rate without setting the resolution to begin with creating a paradox from the get go) Aero being stuck off until a system reboot occurs when specific circumstances occur (why did they remove Aero from a selectable option in the apperances window?) Windows Defender having a fit sometimes causing the action service to go insane. Hardrive write back cache performance problem.... so on and so forth... and where in the hell is our WINFS?

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
if ms screw the pooch with win7 they r going to be in trouble. win7 has to better across the board than vista(&since vista is a great os thats going to be a prob)- it has to perform better, look better, be even easier to use, better security, * so on.
personally i think they should anounce a mid to late 2010 release. that way the can ge it dialed in, & they will still pick up sales on vista ffrom some peeps who hjave been waiting, but may not want/be able to wait another year(thinking some business's here). if(& i have no idea of the actual state of win7), they release yet another os that really wont be viable until a sp1 release they r going to have pr nightmares. especially when you consider that vista has now truly come into its own, & if they continue to improve it like thye did xp then i see no reason whatsoever t ospend a ridiculous amount of $$ to move to a less than stellar os(sounds like this is very possible).

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
To me, it seems like Win7 MIGHT BE (not necessarily) a way to redeem themselves after the Vista fiasco. I am sure they want it out ASAP. Is it really Vista 2.0? Maybe.

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
anyone using vista typically will say (provided it's a working vista version and not a bastardized version)... that they'd rather wait for win7 to resolve everything and be far more feature rich then to have it spat out so soon.
frankly if it had to be postponed to 2010, i wouldn't have a problem with that.. that woudl give it a full 3+ years for vista's run

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
what really cracks me up is peeps bitching about how bad vista was when it forst rolled. obviously they dont/werent around to remember xp rollout. if you were serious about stability & gaming win 98se was the choice until pretty much xp sp1.
personally, i think vista is ahead of were xp was at equivalent times of introduction.

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
agreed.. i've stated this from the start... i found the RC1 release of vista was far more reliable then XP's official release....

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
I have never had an issue with Vista aside from having trouble finding device drivers ...

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
I've had my share of Win7 bugs closed, but in a lot of cases I can understand that. They did intend the beta to be feature complete. They don't want to change UI or anything like that. They're looking to fix bugs, however, and they do seem to care about comments regarding UI changes, telling me in one case it's a good idea but they just won't do it right now.
Hopefully they'll be able to fix the real problems I have witn Win7, like mouse and keyboard sometimes not working when the PC wakes up, and the inability to make SeaMonkey the default browser (neither of which they could repro, unfortunately). That said, I really do think getting Win7 out early is a good idea. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be good enough for XP (and Vista) users to switch to it. |

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
what would be the point(&cost justification) to upgrade from an os(visa & xp) that works good - xp or really good- vista t oan os that from what is being reported & by peeps comments in this forum seems to be decidely raw.
ms will be right back were they were with the initail release of vista.

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
Well, I read the entire 'article', and I did learn something. I now know where at least one of the writers from the now defunct "Weekly World News" ended up.
Not one fact, not one 'source' named (hell, he could have at least quoted Batboy), not one 'supposed bug' that MS is refusing to fix. Nothing but inunendo and supposition. Nothing more than the lame old "Microsoft's <insert new OS name here> is going to suck", that we've always heard.

Re: Windows 7: Cutting corners in the rush to market?
i didnt bother reading it for just that reason. most articles that start out like that one did, with a neg statement about the subject, & especially anything related to ms(& others) are usually exactly what u said buzzard.

Some people will upgrade, or even buy a new PC, simply to say state of the art.

Well we all know that many will not touch before a SP1 has been released anyway.
