Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

Since Vista driver 9.1 was the best working driver for Windows 7 I didn't hesitate to give 9.2 a try. The driver seems to do well but I can't get the control panel to start. So for now if you're thinking about giving 9.2 a go then you might want to wait (a new Windows 7 beta driver should appear together with Catalyst 9.3 next month). Others that may have tried the same, share your experience here.

Edit: It works fine now after I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. (There's likely something that has gone wrong in my Win7 installation as some part of CCC tries to start on bootup after the driver is uninstalled. Should be time to install another beta build anyway.)

Re: Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

I have two installs of Win 7 beta on my system. One is just a basic install with drivers, and the other has a couple of games and other applications.

Basic Install:

9.2 installed with no problems. CCC seems to be working just fine.
It was kind of 'spooky' in that it didn't ask for a re-boot after the install. Also, my screen resolutions (dual monitors), and Iconlocations were all intact. I did do a re-boot 'just in case'.

Other install:

Again, not problem with install, and CCC seems to be working OK on this partition as well.

However it did seem to take longer, and when it finished my screen resolutions were changed, and Icons scrambled Again, it did not ask for a re-boot. I re-booted anyway, and after the re-boot, my SCREEN RESOLUTIONS were restored, but the Icons were still scrambled.

Really interesting that the install went differently on the two partitions.

Re: Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

I was hoping for a positive report. 9.2 works here too after uninstalling and cleaning.

Yeah as long as a previous release version of Catalyst is being used a reboot is no longer required after installing a new one.

Sounds great. So far I've always had to reboot on clean installs though. Or at least it tells me to.

Re: Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

i wonder why..

i mean you've got even up to date system components..

i don't get the message on even older system.... vista installed on systems with pci-ex .... if it's AGP it REQUIRES a reboot though.

Re: Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

Clean 7022 build installation. ATI Catalyst 9.2 driver wont install. CCC and everything else installs just fine but driver installation gives FAIL.

# Tried manually installing driver infs
# Tried installing wdm 1.1 via update and then again and no success

Now using win7 preview drivers with latest ccc(not sure), display manager works but I would rather use 9.2. I tried vista compatibility mode also. Any tips?

Re : Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

Hi, I will try to explain how to install catalyst 9.2 driver on seven build 7022 (sorry for my english, I'm french ...)

edit the file :
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-2_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75976\Driver\Packages\Dri vers\Display\LH_INF\CL_75976.inf
(you have to lauch normal catalyst 9.2 setup first for that file exist)

replace :
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg, NTx86.6.0, NTx86.6.1
[ATI.Mfg.NTx86.6.0]
By
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg
[ATI.Mfg]
then you will be able to manually installing driver infs (in the device manager)
- right click on your graphic card
- click "update driver"
- click "Browse my computer for driver software"
- click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- Click "Have disk"
- chose this file "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-2_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75976\Driver\Packages\Dri vers\Display\LH_INF\CL_75976.inf
...
There is an alert "This driver is not digitally signed" but it works

On my config, crossfire works well with this driver. But no crossfire in GTA iV

Re: Catalyst 9.2 on Windows 7 (possible problem with CCC)

I'm running 9.2 drivers on the 7048 x64 version. Didn't bother installing CCC, because I wanted to install Ati Tray Tools, which unfortunately won't install. Otherwise it's running ok.
