Windows 7 Release Candidate Announcement

Effective April 30, the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) will be available to MSDN subscribers and TechNet Plus subscribers.

On Tuesday, May 5 (PST), the RC will be available to everyone via our Customer Preview Program. As with the Beta, the Windows 7 RC Customer Preview Program is a broad public program that offers the RC free to anyone who wants to download it. It will be available at least through June 30, 2009, with no limits on the number of downloads or product keys available.

So you don’t need rush to make sure you get your copy. When you’re ready to download the RC, it’ll be waiting for you.

Windows 7 Beta downloads are no longer available. However, you can still register for a product key or look up the key you’ve already gotten.

Windows 7 is…
the next release of the Windows client operating system. It provides a solid foundation that serves all your development needs and includes new features that improve developer productivity.

I've been running the 'leaked' version and I'm pretty happy with it.

I'll D/L the 'official' one and do a re-install on the 5th when it's available, 'just in case'

So far the ONLY thing that I'm not entirely happy with is Superfetch. They seem to have made it a LOT less aggressive in preloading applications. Personally, I like Vista's way better. I want the OS to USE as much of my 8GB of memory as possible for preloading. That's why I put it in the system. To be USED, and not just sitting there doing nothing and looking pretty.

I would have been nice if they would have given us the same option with Superfetch that they gave us with UAC. Let US decide how 'aggressive' we would like Superfetch to work. Who knows, maybe it's there 'somewhere' and I've missed it. It wouldn't be the fitst time I've done that

OH, and something really nice...check out the new CALCULATER in WIN 7...it does a LOT more that the old Xp/Vista one did

I will have to check the calculator out haven't yet on Win7. No major issues here either on build 7100 and something I like is the way it handles open browser windows and such. Instead of listing open ones on a list on the task bar it actually shows them in a preview window when you move the mouse over them

Here's hoping for something like that too. There's been talk about adding a feature to Superfetch that allows the user to choose areas of priority, but no word yet if that will make it into Windows 7. Now that RC1 will replace the beta in the spotlight we should soon be getting some official words on these things if it's going to happen at all. So far on Microsofts TechNet forums all questions regarding later builds have been suppressed. Build 7000 also had more of the old behavior in it, but having run with most of the leaked later builds it would seem that it might have been code going out rather than code being worked on.

I'm so glad that people notice. It's been a desert walk trying to find notices about this on the net.

I guess we will wait and see on Tuesday guys I will keep testing using this beta key until August and see what happens.

well, i'm also running the leaked version, and since the hashes are the same than the official, i'm sticking with this one

so far, absolutely 0 problems, drivers installed nice, everything's working, games running better than before (used to game in Vista Home Premium 64), etc

I'm also d/ding as I write this. I did some testing when the Vista betas came out and have been hearing so many good things about the i7 betas, thought I'd give them a try also.

One quick question. I just installed a Foxconn Bloodrage GTI in my computer and was wondering would the beta drivers from Creative work with the X-Fi card that comes with the board?

Just returned from installing Windows 7 RC.... So far so no problems at all (Unactivated as yet).

Just so busy hunting down the rest of the required drivers for my set up.. Early days yet bur this already looks better than vista.

The vista drivers will not install for me... I currently waiting on an extremely slow W7 Beta Download.

Its taken around 40m so far,were normally under good conditions should be between 10-15.

The download manager isn't managing to well even though it says 4 connections.... the sucker is slow still and not load balancing across both my internet connections...

kinda sucks..

@Judas..... I'm getting better than 120kb/s which is normally unheard of with this @#%$ verizon isp I have..... but I noticed it will drop from ~168kb/s if I do anything else with the system.... even moving the mouse will drop it to 112kb/s or slower

Me I got 20% done on new Release RC1 even though I installed leak version lol. I'm download the manager threw firefox. Best part this won't expire to June 2010 woot!

RC2 will likely be out after about 4-6 months anyways....(or earlier)..... vista has a long duration for it's RC releases to..... but i think some people are crazy if they would rather have the rc's then the latest official

less then 2 minutes and i'll have the official RC done downloading.. it started out at a little over 29 hours to complete.. but it's still unfortunate that it's stuck on my DSL line downloading rather then load balancing across both dsl and super wifi

I can't wait go 3megs soon hopely next week my friends to busy stop by yet. Now just have to burn this new RC1 to DVD again I'm all set woot. PS it took me 3 hours and 15mins to grab 2.3 gigs hehe

Whats your upload speed Judas? Once I get new RC1 installed I happy upload to you I only can upload at 800kpbs next week if my friends stop by I be 3megs down and 1.5 up hehe.

Mine's done, ISO burned and installed..... even got drivers done on this old HP SFF. I think it's the first time something worked for me and not for Judas...... Not laughing mind you, just shocked.

Not sure if I'm going to try it on anything else or not..... Hmmmmm

By the way, it runs on a 2.8 P4 with 512 ram....

my upload speed?

depends... the DSL is 96kb/s (about 5-8KB/s) where as my yourlink varies from 1000kb/s to as much as 14000kb/s (very bloody fast)

after my second time downloading win7 corrupting as well on another machine... i said screw it and i'm now downloading at nearly 5 times faster speeds using IE8's downloader..

Well I finaly delete my partion on old windows 7 RC1 going installed new one soon. I love Easeus Partion manager hehe

works very well. Right now formated my partion so I can installed new plubic RC1

mines p4 2.66 1.5gigs of ram

Judas you sure you can't get wireless? It might be better thats what I got.

I have W7 installed fine without problems appart from one.

I have no email client installed from the default instalation.has anyone else have the same problem.
