Win7 RC and Adaptec SCSI card?

I've been looking high and low for a driver that will get Win 7 to recognize my Adaptec SCSI card. It's a 2903, a pretty plain, generic Fast SCSI card, and the driver Adaptec has made that works for this card works for dozens of their cards, including the 7850-series and the 2940 series cards.

I'm hopeful that MS will see fit to include a driver for these cards in their final release of 7, cuz I haven't had much luck so far finding anything that will install so far.

I don't suppose any of you folks here might know of a version of this driver that'll work with Win7?

Have you tried the vista version? That's about the closest you'll find, from what I can figure Win7 isn't going to do SCSI. At least that's what I've seen on the MS forums.

Of note, there is no x64bit driver for that card (specifically the AIC-78xx series of cards) for Vista, but there is for x86 (32bit). You can get that driver HERE on adaptecs website.

Although I haven't tried it myself there is normally 2 ways to get Vista drivers to work on Windows 7: they either install normally, or you have to install it manually (sometimes even overriding the errors that say it's not a compatible driver). Either way make sure you do a restore point before installing the driver just in case you need to roll back to before you install them.

I'm pretty sure it was the Vista version I tried. It locked up the system during installation, requiring a system reset to get things unstuck.

I'm running the 7100 build right now.

I can see why MS might not have much interest in supporting SCSI. I have several SCSI devices, but they're all old. Serviceable, but obsolete. Except my two CD changers. I don't think you can even buy CD changers any more. Heck, I dunno if Win 7 even supports CD changers. The last time I used them was with this same system, but it was running Win 98, and it was kinda annoying the way they shuffled disks all the time.

Hmmm -- come to think of it, I could just as easily load up a 4gb flash drive with a whole bunch more songs than those two changes would hold in CDs, so I guess they're even obsolete.

Which version of build 7100 are you running? 32bit or 64bit?
