Can you do a clean install with upgrade?

Can you do a format on the Harddrive and then install Windows 7 from an upgrade version like you could Win98-SE?

I don't think that Microsoft has said anything exact about that yet, but it should be the same as Vista and then you can not. Or may not, is probably the right wording, since there seem to be an unofficially supported way to do it as mentioned in some places like here. We'll still have to wait and see how exactly it goes with Win7 upgrade discs.

For those of you able to preorder a Windows 7 upgrade disc for $50 I'd say go for it, it's worth the risk of a bit of hassle to get a good product for that price.

Thank you both for your support. I just went to Vista home Premium X64 in Feb when I built my PC, so I guess I will live with Vista for awhile until MAYBE the price for a full install comes down....say 2015 HA HA HA

If you are satisfied with Vista, I don't see any reason to go with 7 now.

It was possibly to use an upgrade version of Vista to do a clean install. Perhaps the same tactic works with 7. I don't know since I don't plan on buying 7.
