Windows 7- Blue Screen of Death
Howdy guys.
I have this Toshiba laptop that came pre-installed with Windows Vista. Windows Explorer kept crashing on me while i had Vista. When Windows 7 came out, I immediately upgraded to the Windows 7 RC. I'm now getting the Blue Screen of Death just as much as I was having Windows Explorer crash on me in Vista. Any suggestions on how to fix this? |

Re: Windows 7- Blue Screen of Death
I'd suspect a hardware problem at this point. Any warranty left?

Re: Windows 7- Blue Screen of Death
If you did as I assume you did, which was to "upgrade" to Windows 7, and not do a fresh install of Windows 7, there's a couple things to consider.
1) If Explorer was crashing due to a virus, then you've simply changed the OS, and brought along the virus. The blue screening could caused by a piece of the virus that is still rooted into your system. Sort of like what can happen while cleaning a virus out, where a virus is designed to work with multiple files, and as a whole the system runs OK (infected, yes, but OK), but if you remove a piece of a virus, by design the virus (or trojan/rootkit) is to kill the system. 2) Windows 7 may have chosen device driver that is not correct for one of your devices, or it could also be that a driver you had installed for Vista is incompatible Windows 7. 3) One thing people forget to do before they upgrade Windows is to remove any protection applications, such as anti-virus software or anti-malware, or any program that protects system files. Most anti-virus work by protecting the OS in such a way that it can cause serious problems when upgrading the OS to a different version. Going from an SP to SP release isn't too bad, but doing a full OS to a different OS.. bad news. A couple things: 1) What message are you getting when it blue screens? 2) Try accessing Windows 7 safe mode. 3) Do a fresh, clean install of Windows 7 (no upgrade). Just remember to backup any of the data you want to keep. |

Re: Windows 7- Blue Screen of Death
does Toshiba include a bios diagnostic tool? try running it for your hard drive and video card (2 things is suspect the most with blue screens)
you should also run a memtest (ram = #3 for me) actually try super pi (google it), set the bar high and see if your computer crashes. |
