i'm at my wits end...and windows 7 did it
Hello,
I bought a Zotac GeForce GTX 295 and i encountered a serious problem with it.I had the Windows 7 RC 64 bit version installedand the graphics card i used at the time was an Leadtek 7800 GTX.Upon changing the video cards i followed the instruction the manual that came with the Zotac card and the most curious thing happened. It loaded up the windows and all but task manager showed a CPU consumption of 100% with the Zotac GeForce GTX 295, problem i never encountered on my old video card. The OS was inoperable, i couldn't even perform the simple task of copy and paste. ![]() I tried to reinstall Windows 7 RC 64 bit version after i formated the partition i normaly use for operating systems and it would not let me install it.It acted as though the CPU was fully loaded at 100%! Therefore i changed to my old Leadtek 7800 GTX and it let me install it without a problem. ![]() With the Zotac GeForce GTX 295 i havemn't encountered any problems whatsoever with any application or game, not even one error or bluescreen on a windows xp and everything runs fine. Performance wise its very very good, as i said i had not run into any problems with it except the thing that it woun't let me install windows 7 on the system. The same thing happens with the Windows 7 RTM 64 bit version. My system spec are these : - Asus P6T-WS-Professional - Intel Core i7 920 BOX - Corsair DOMINATOR DDR3 6144MB (3 x 2048) 1600MHz CL8 - Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional - hdd western digital 320 gb - Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W - Zalman CNPS 9900 LED - Antec Twelve Hundred(case) I have posted this problem even on the microsoft forum during the rc tests and no moderators bothered with an answer to this problem. I thought of every posibillity but could only come to the conclusion the card may be having some sort of weird bug, because it runs perfect on windows XP but will not let me install Windows 7.also i have been thinking of an BIOS upgrade maybe that will do some good although i sort of doubt it. If anyone has encountered a similar problem please reply to the topic, i really could use some help figuring this one out. ![]() Thank you. |

Re: i'm at my wits end...and windows 7 did it
HI, that is indeed a weird issue. The first thing I can say is that I have used a Zotac 295 with Windows 7 64bit and it worked ok. So that rules out it being a problem with Zotac 295s or all 295s.
I think the first step is to flash that motherboard bios and set all options to their defaults. Try to install Windows again and see what happens. If its still a problem we can drop Zotac and Asus an email for you, see if they can find anything similar in their test labs. |

Have to get inline behind Veridian on this one.
Would look into a bios upgrade. When installing the OS knock down to default values or at least values that are well within spec of your components (Overclocking, Overvolting, and so on) Also, be sure to check a couple options in your bios: Be sure onboard video is disabled (if motherboard in fact has video), be sure to set video priority to the Pci-E slot your gtx295 is installed in. On top of that, some bios have an option for sli / crossfire config to specify the PCI-E link state. Normally its not needed to fiddle with this setting, but since you have the Bugatti Veyron of video cards... it might necessitate some user defined settings. ~MG~

Re: i'm at my wits end...and windows 7 did it
thanks madgoat, i haven't had time to get arround to the update been busy at work and all, but this saturday i will update it, a friend who also uses asus motherboards advised me to use the update program from the motherboard's instalation cd.
se says it just downloads the latest thing straight from asus restarts the system and then its done. hope it works ![]() it think it will work because i looked up the bios version currently installed and it's version 0401 i think so...yeah that may indeed be the problem. wish me luck :P |
