tried everything - HD DVD playback stutters in Windows 7 :(

card: ATI 2600HD
LG HD DVD/Bluray combo drive
dual monitors - Dell 27 and a Samsung 40" TV hooked up via HDMI (extended desktop from main monitor)

it worked perfectly in Vista, smooth HD DVD playback, no issues at all

upgraded to Windows 7 Final RTM: Blu-ray playback still works perfectly, HD DVD stutters, unwatchable, very poor performance.

built-in Windows 7 ATI drivers - failed
All versions of Catalyst: 9.2 to 9.7 - failed
All versions of PowerDVD that support HD DVD - failed
Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre - failed

tried the ATI dxva vbs script, on and off - no difference.
tried checking for DXVA settings using the checker, looks ok.

I've tried everything I can think of to get my HD DVD playback working properly under Windows 7.

The only thing next would be to restore back to Vista from a backup.

Any suggestions?

Im going out on a limb here... Did you "Upgrade" your Vista installation?

There are many kinks in this method, and i personally have had little annoyances such as yourself with even "Upgrading" from previous versions of Win7 itself. Not surprising, I ended up backing up and preforming a Fresh install... fixed my little problems every time.

other than that i might suggest looking for a little setting in your bios called: "HPET".

if found, you should enable it. I have found many motherboards don't enable this by default. (for compatibility reasons im sure)

HPET stands for High Precision Event Timer. (If you didnt already know that ) Little more information can be found here: HPET Wiki
