Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
Hello,
I just purchased a Gateway LT3103u netbook (came with Vista). I installed Win7 RTM (licensed) on the book and downloaded all of the drivers from Gateway's site. My book has 11.6in screen and should support 1366x768 screen resolution however I cannot get above 1080x768. For my system specs it says I have: Chassis with ATI Radeon® X1270 Graphics and AMD RS690E Chipset I have installed the chipset driver from Gateway but it did not work. I tried to start Catalyst Control Center but it would not start (nothing happens). I called Gateway...they don't support Win7...I called ATI...they don't offer support for notebook drivers...but suggested this site. Any help would be great as I can't find anything yet. Thank You, Jason |

Re: Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
At the bottom of the review for your netbook, the reviewer mentions installing Windows 7 RC successfully and only had to update the graphics and wi-fi drivers. Not sure why the RTM won't work.
![]() Unboxing the Gateway LT3103u 11.6 inch netbook | NetbookTech I know I'm no help and I hate to say it, but you might be better off waiting on those official drivers with having a brand new netbook and all. Vista isn't that bad...is it? My apologies for Gateway's lack of foresight.

Re: Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
I just found this post...maybe it can help.
So out of the box, installing 64-bit Windows 7, the video and wi-fi will not recognize. I manually installed wifi drivers from the ones built into Windows (choose driver, uncheck "show compatible"), and choose the Atheros 5B895 driver. Once wireless worked, Windows 7 showed a MS update for the Radeon X1200 series driver (despite the system showing "Generic PNP VGA adapter") Once the update was installed, with a reboot, the system had working video at the native resolution.

Re: Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
Thanks for sending this link, I left a comment on the blog to hopefully get some more help as I tried to run the update and it didn't find anything and told me I already had the best suitable driver.
The main difference I can see is that i'm running x32 not x64. Hopefully will find something soon |

Re: Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
I tried uninstalling the ATI driver that was for Vista x32 and it didn't change a thing. I thought it might force windows to look for a new driver but nope. Still can't get native 1366x768 resolution.

Re: Windows 7 on Gateway Netbook with ATI
I too have made the upgrade to windows 7 ultimate on the same laptop. The update that was in WU actually worked like a charm, but catalyst likes to crash now. Good news is that I'm getting 1366x768 resolution. The only thing I might have done different was that I messed with this method from this link.http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php I hope that it leads you in the right direction as well. I may have just got lucky. On another note, does anyone know how I can prevent catalyst from crashing? It's a minor annoyance.
