scrolling in IE makes a weird noise out of my HDD

I just noticed this recently don't know if its the OS, but whenever I scroll a page with more images like Gizmodo, my hard drive makes a very low seeking noise just as if its winding (it sounds like a safe lock). It doesn't happen to my own folders like music, where I have loads of files nor pictures. Its a minor thing but kinda irritating while scrolling down. I thought it was my G7 going bad, but even holding the down arrow does the same.

Could it be windows 7, IE8 or my Raptor going bad?

Are you sure it's coming from youy HDD? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a solinoid on my MB. Used to happen on more than just IE though, games too. It was particularly noisy with Dreamscene.

Re: scrolling in IE makes a weird noise out of my HDD

i've been notcing alot of this high frequency audioable sounds coming from computers for the last year or 2...

usually hard to notice emediately but under specific circumstances SUCH AS web surfing reguardless of browser or what have you. Far as i could tell, it's the motherboard or other parts of the machine actually producing audio from the "vibration" or frequency... specific data being sent down various paths. Usually you see this happen when something is "held solid in place" either through one method or another (usually slopped up with a pile of hot glue)... but most of the motherboards now are solid state setups. A single chip could be doing this or multiple ones.. or a specific path on the motherboard.

I confirmed this on 3 machines previously where putting preasure on specific places or specific chips would stop it.

a similar weird sound issue was resolved by disabling "smooth scrolling " in IE advanced properties
