Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
64 bit hands down....... much better....
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/articles.php?articleid=137 Veridian3 did a comparison with 32 bit XP vs the rest in that article (located in forum discussion) and said that 64 bit beat the 32 bit OS

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
anyone that uses 32bit should be shot... imo..
the only reason anyone should be using 32bit is if they have 32bit only cpu's to install it on.

I'm running Win 7 32 bit on an Asus eee900, and was looking for my body armor ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah, the ONLY reason to install the 32 bit version is if you only have a 32 bit processor.

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
from a practical point of view, if you got more than 4gig ram go 64bit - other than that it's useless to go 64bit.

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
Even with 4GB it's worth going for 64 bit. I've been using Vista x64 for a while now, and it worked well, and when I installed Vista x86 on the same PC (for work) there was a noticeable difference for the worse.

well, there's always XP-mode for older apps ... so yeah you won't lose with 64-bit

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
I think what he's referring to the general conception that 64-bit is only useful if you have more than 3GB of RAM.

I've been installing 64bit windows even when 512mb of ram was still considered "average/minimum" there is a NOTICEABLE improvement in a number of things when it comes to vista or win7's x64 performance even under low memory situations... there is more to 64bit then just ram..... much more.

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
I'm hoping Win7 64-bit will fix some of my problems. Vista 64 keeps locking up my browsers and they won't close I had to build a cheap system and install Win XP 32-bit on it to get reliable access to the internet. Besides, it gives me a nice fuzzy feeling having complete access to 8GB of RAM on a gaming system if I ever need it for Fake Factory's CM10 Half Life 2 mod. ~grin~

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
dont forget there are actually benefits from using a 64 bit OS as it can fully utilise the 64 bit instruction set of most recent processors.
Photoshop cs4 64 bit for instance is 10-15% faster than the 32 bit version, and there are benefits with other applications such as cinema 4D (try cinebench 32 bit and 64 bit for instance). |

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
64bit advantages:
supports more than 3.35gb RAM unlike 32bit supports DirectX 10 and over supports 64-bit processors, utilizing more of the benefits from such CPU's ... IS THE FUTURE that's... about it right? |

Re: win7 to be 64bit or not to be
Zardon pointed out a few of the benefits..
I'm sure you can pull up google and search on the matter as well.. But really why is this being discussed much further, 32bit to 64bit is like talking about if 32bit is better then 16bit.... or 8bit vs 16bit and so forth... At the time for both there really wasn't THAT much difference by the majority of average joes or some of the more technicaly involved, that noticed emediately when they first arrived either.
