Windows 7 System Builder Question
I just had a question about the system builder versions of Windows 7. Can anyone buy them or do you have to have a business or something? I was looking at this
Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems Its only $140 vs almost $300 for the full retail version of pro. i was just confused as to what it is exactly.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
It's basically the OEM version, you have to buy "hardware" with it. but it's a full version of pro, I do believe, There's actually multiple system builder versions if I recall.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
It's supposed to be locked in for the system it was first installed on.... in other words "no major upgrades" and no switching to a new machine. In theory at least.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
It also forfeits any active user support on Microsofts part, as the "system builder" becomes responsible for the support. Not usually a problem, but notable.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
Yeah but 9/10 times, you'll just end up reinstalling or fixing the driver issue, But As for the no major switching out, you just have to do the call Microsoft thing, and explain the reasons for the switches at worst, usually they just activate it if you say it's the original machine.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
Windows 7 is a user friendly operating system and it is faster than Vista. The most important fact is it acquires lesser space than vista, but only demerit is it does not supports each and every software.

Re: Windows 7 System Builder Question
buy it..
trust me.... after going through it all, i've come to the conclusion that it's just overall cheaper and less mind numbing to purchase the OEM copies.. cause generally your not going to have problems with windows... so support for it is meh.. Ontop of that, you can make Significant changes to your computer, EVEN move the entire OS only ONCE provided with a good reason... I've so far been able to move windows 7 oem once and windows vista 3 times on a single OEM copy and been approved by Microsoft... fully genuine and activated.
