Windows 7's CONSTANT "iexplorer" Crash

Not sure if anyone else is seeing this exact same issue, Obviously you gotta be using Internet Explorer 8 as your browser.

Heres the deal, Back when i first had win7 in the pre-7000 builds, i had no issues, worked beautifully, 7000/7077/7100 and later builds also showed improvement in the IE8 experience.

However when i received the 7600 RTM release, i noticed on my main machine that it seemed like every so often, Flash related ads, video, whatever would "glitch" "freeze" "lockup" or something strange would happen. Now initially i thought this was just my computer being a jackass but apparently not after migrating a number of computers to windows 7.

Now from what i've gathered, this only affects computer with Win7 x64 running 32bit Explorer client and Flash.

Quite some time ago when Adobe launched Flash 10, I noticed these exact symptoms in Vista as well that "appeared" to finally resolve itself, but now with win7, it's got to the point it has actually caused a BSOD which i've never seen before in win7.

What happens is for example, your browsing around youtube, and then suddenly, you either back up, or load another video, or something and the entire IE window stops responding, you can wait there 5 minutes or a day and it'll never respond. So best solution is load up task manager, go to the process tab and forcefully END TASK on the one that appears to be chewing up the most memory (usually that's the case). Bam, the window refreshes, recovers by loading up the very page you were on and your on your marry way.

However, the more tabs you have open, the more likely this seems to occur.

It's gotten so bad now that i'm getting occasionally even without a lockup or anything a "iexplorer.exe" has crashed message quite frequently.

This is occuring to almost ALL the computers, i've got about 15-20 win7 x64 machines ranging from all flavours all running just fine.

If flash is removed, there is never an issue, never a hitch, glitch, nothing at all. I've seen this reported on the microsoft boards but has been consistantly labeled as "resolved" when clearly it is not.

I've been using the OEM copy of win7 x64, everything else on the system works flawlessly.... so this suggest that adobe's flash is the culprit.

Wish adobe would get thier shit together and release a 64bit version and the IE8 is fast as hell.

I had a problem very similar to yours. What I found out is that Adobe is just too lazy to fix their broken software. The culprit was Flash Player v10, and in order to fix it, I had to completely remove v10 and load up v9. I don't know if you did this already, but if not it's worth trying.

And yes, Adobe really needs to release an x64 version of Flash Player.

OK so i'm not going crazy... and it still hasn't been resolved...

This is occuring to you in say firefox as well?

I know that when Flash 10 came out, vista with explorer was a royal pain in the ass, and i tracked it down to being flash then.. but it mostly resolved with an occasion "issue"

and i mean it doesn't "appear" to be a select few with the issue....

Re: Windows 7's CONSTANT "iexplorer" Crash

It used to happen in Opera, not sure about IE. I no longer get those problems with newer revisions of Flash Player v10, oddly enough. Maybe there's something else which causes Flash to act up, like a conflicting program (who knows?).

I haven't had any issues with Flash yet on Win7 in fact. All my issues were on XP.

One thing that may help: I'm not sure if IE works the same way as Opera does in this instance, but in the browser there is usually a Plugins section. I remember encountering problems when multiple Flash instances were displayed in that plugin list. All you would need to do is remove superfluous instances of Flash Player from that list and it fixed some issues I was having at the time. Sounds like a bit of a longshot but I can't think of anything else that would help you right now.

Does the new Flash Player update that came out yesterday evening help at all?

Re: Windows 7's CONSTANT "iexplorer" Crash

Considering that ALL of these machines are a clean install, and have NO other programs running or other things installed yet aside from flash suggests that it's flash itself being a royal pain.

Last night while browsing around i had a flash video running and opening a new tab and going to another site which was loading up until a flash ad loaded and froze emediately i could still hear the orginal flash ad running. Forcing the explorer task to end worked.

Well if you're running Win 7 x64 and you don't want to see any flash content you can always load up the 64 bit version of IE. Since Flash player doesn't support the 64 bit version of anything.

Hi Judas,

Have you updated to the latest version of Sun Java?

I used to get this occasionally, until I removed all instances of Java and installing both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the latest Java.

This used to happen in both Opera and IE8 for me.

Re: Windows 7's CONSTANT "iexplorer" Crash

ive always had this prob with any of the windows xp vista win7 64
It seems to be flash that always lets us down but after installing flash a few times and going through the 1e8 install it always fixes it self
I,m not sure if this is the same prob as posted above but this is my experience

ps..... swearing at the computer sometimes helps as well

The logs don't really state anything of any use other then something along the lines of something not responding.

I mean IE8 doesn't seem to crash itself, window remains open. just hangs until i nuke it myself.

However this problem hasn't occured for quite some time shortly after orginal creating this thread.

Re: Windows 7's CONSTANT "iexplorer" Crash

All,

I had this problem and the solution is to turn off hardware acceleration of flash.

when playing a flash video, right-click on the video and go to settings.

un-click the box that says "hardware acceleration"

Please spread the word on other forums. I've already registered on three forums to pass on the solution.
