Wink Windows 'GodMode'

Windows 7's so-called GodMode is actually a shortcut to accessing the operating system's various control settings.

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.
By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.
The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.
.
To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
VIDEO HERE:
Videos - Free video downloads and streaming video - CNET TV

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options.
I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.
I've asked Microsoft for more details on the feature and how it came to be. But so far, Redmond is silent on the topic.

Re: Windows 'GodMode'

Tried this but it's no use to me, perhaps after a fresh installation it would do nice but not now. I think this tool works very well for a person who's not familiar where stuff are in win7.

That is seriously cool, no need to enter Control Panel any longer.

Many thanks.

Re: Windows 'GodMode'

I'm wondering if someone could use this to go around the control panel being blocked by the admin. This is a problem if it works.

Re: Windows 'GodMode'

Are there any new functions that would not normally be available? Interesting if there is cause tweaking has always interested me.

All functions are accessable through the start menu search, in case you may wonder.

just not in any regular menus? that's ok, I never know what to search for though and if I ever have issues I usually call in for a push in the right direction, but "NOW" I have 'godmode'

Re: Windows 'GodMode'

I can confirm this is 100% working and fully legit to anybody that's wondering. And if you don't believe me, Would i be trying this out on a system i've got 2 years worth of college work stored on?

And in response to your question frankie there's nothing that can't be accessed either by the control or by searching for it through the start menu

Re: Windows 'GodMode'

I'm not sure if it does that Frankie, but what it DOES do is put everything in one place so they are easier to find.

It's easy enough to set up. Give it a try to see what it looks like. If you don't like it all you have to do is delete the folder and the shortcut on the desktop.

I notice that it hasn't been mentioned anywhere in this thread, but,

!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TRY THIS WITH VISTA !!!!!!!!!!

This is for WIN 7 only.

actually the very first one mentioned by leanwolf, the original GodMode folder, works just fine in Vista.
don't try the others that teme listed though, they could do bad things to vista (especially 64bit apparantly)

I quite like it atm, cos everything is just in a nice big list, and i'm only learning my way round win7 properly, so its handy for some things (i all but skipped vista altogether, so i'm not used to the layout and that)

no testimonials necessary for me, I just loaded it and bingo it worked....
not quite as fun as chasing your girl around the living room before a romp in the hay, but it used up ten minutes of my life I will never get back, and I am not complaining
