Win 7 won't recognize USB devices
I've got two symptoms of what I presume is the same problem...
Whenever I plug my LifeCam VX-5000 into a port on the back of the computer, Windows tells me it doesn't recognize the device. However, when I plug it into one of the ports mounted on the front of the case it works just fine. Sometimes, my das keyboard will fail to work upon Windows starting up. Pressing the numlock, scroll lock, and caps lock buttons don't illicit any response what-so-ever. The little lights on the keyboard don't even come on. Unplugging it and plugging it back in causes all three lights on the keyboard to turn on, but the keyboard still fails to work. It takes a couple of reboots and alternating between the USB jacks on the back of the computer to get it to work. When this problem occurs, I can't even log in. The keyboard NEVER fails to work in the BIOS, or at any time before Windows starts (i.e. running memtest), which leads me to believe this is a problem with Windows, and not with the motherboard. I did install chipset drivers for my EP35-DS3L mobo. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Edit: I got Win 7 x64, and the specs in my sig are very outdated.

Re: Win 7 won't recognize USB devices
I think there was a BIOS fix for various USB problems with that line of boards. Could be worth looking into.

Re: Win 7 won't recognize USB devices
I've seen this occur over the last few years with various computers and motherboard, typically quite often with Dell computers or realy cheap motherboards.
If this just recently started acting up i would crop it up to being a coincidence and not saying win7 is the cause at all. I just had a customer recently bring in a dell computer and installed win7, he took it home only to give me a call about 3 weeks later stating that the one front port and 2 back usb ports were giving him this exact error, further testing found that the ports were toast, nearly all USB devices were not working in them, and that the issue was power related from the motherboard itself and not a software or usb device issue. Obviously trying to find bios updates, perhaps latest chipset drivers and so forth for the board is the good place to start, but I personally have never found a solution to this kind of problem beside replaceing the board or just slapping a PCI/PCI-ex USB add in board into the computer.

i cant find it right now but i came across a USB tester that checked the USB Power, the connections and whatnot, gives an "pass" "fail" status essentially, because you don't need to be in windows to test, it'll state if the port is essentially fouled or not....
