XP Mode review...

I'm not sure how many people have tested this but I finally got it working on my work laptop and it works slick as sh*t (well... after it's setup correctly ).

It did take me a bit to get my domain credentials working correctly because I'm going through an older Nextel IP Phone that I needed to install a switch in-between the phone and the pc in order to work correctly but after that, it's been working sweet.

My original issue on why I needed this to work was because of the VBS Compiler along with the Exchange tools not installing on Win 7. I got the regular AD tools installed (that was a nice change from when Vista was released and they didn't have tools out yet) but for some reason, on my box the new released ones will not install. They haven't made a Compiler to work yet, at least not what I could find.

We haven't gone through our print server and updated drivers to Win 7 either so printing needs to be done to IP printing which kind of bites sometimes so that's another plus on the XP Mode. Connect to the print server by \\server, double click, install and print!

XP Mode on my laptop uses about 512 out of the 4 gigs of ram I have installed, doesn't use 3D apps at all, and is stuck to a 800x600 screen res but it does work for simple network tasks.

All in all, I give it a plus to MS for making this available.

Re: XP Mode review...

Windows XP mode is indeed slick for many tasks..

If you need to share network files from within windows xp or connect to a network printer, make sure you change the network adapter under the windows xp mode's virtual PC settings to directly connect to the win7's network adapter, don't use the share/nat mode. This will allow you to 100% turn windows xp mode into it's own pc with no network restrictions.
