Windows Live, ICQ and taskbar.
This is something that annoys me a lot with Windows 7. I don't know if it's the apps or if it's windows itself that causes this but it's irritating and I don't want it.
When I close/minimize both windows live and icq I still have them on my taskbar, like this. ![]() I want it like it used to be with XP, I only got the small icon on the right side of the taskbar. It works for most other apps like yahoo messenger and so on. For windows live I don't even get the small icon like I did in XP, I do for ICQ though. How do I fix this? I can't find ANY setting in either windows live or ICQ to correct this. |

Re: Windows Live, ICQ and taskbar.
My sentiments exactly. It's a Windows 7 thing, probably because they expect everyone to use the default taskbar settings (extra-large icons). Programs can minimise to the system tray, they just decided to opt out that feature for WLM for Win7.
I haven't tried it with Windows 7 yet but I know this works with Vista: 4t-tray minimiser You won't need the pro version - the free version works just fine.

Yeah I hated that at first too. Kinda got used to it now though.

Re: Windows Live, ICQ and taskbar.
The workaround of putting the messenger program in Vista or XP -compatibility mode might still work.
Or if you'd like to try having ICQ and MSN in the same program, there is Miranda IM. I used Miranda just for that over several years before ditching ICQ, and now Miranda exclusively for MSN. It's a more clean little program than the default client, though web camera conversations might not be supported I guess. |

Speaking of compatibility though, has anyone tried using it in XP Mode (the built-in virtual XP)?
