No login?
Is it at all possible to make Windows 7 to boot up without having to login with password like it is with XP?
It's a pain having to retype password every time I start my HTPC up or reboot it, and since noone else has access to it anyway I don't feel the need to have it password protected. I haven't been able to find where if it's possible, it's not in the same place as it was in XP. |

Re: No login?
Yeah it can be done. The setting is some where in the user account settings in the CP ... Need to look it up on my netbook..

Re: No login?
I've looked in there.. only thing I managed to do is to change so I don't have to enter password every time it wakes up from power saving mode. That's good, for the most part this is how it will work, but sometimes it has to reboot and I don't like to have a keyboard ready at all times..

Re: No login?
Have you tried setting a blank password?

Re: No login?
Should be an option to Remove Password in the user accounts panel, then if you only have one user account on the machine it will just logon.
If that doesn't work, and possibly the easier option type 'netplwiz' into the run box and uncheck the option that opens. |

Re: No login?
Thanks. Removing the password was all that was needed. Don't know how I missed that option but I guess it's that thing with being to obvious.

Re: No login?
i find 95% of the people that get a new machine or install windows vista/7/xp... always puts a password in EVEN though they don't want it in some cases... obviously resulting in a requirement to LOG IN..
easy solution is simply don't put on in and click NEXT/skip on that option... otherwise as you found out... remove it later... I've had 3 people in the last year that brought in their machines simply because they wanted it to log in "like windows xp used to" (lol) and i fixed it in a split second. 1 windows vista user and 2 win7.... both bitched about this being "some stupid vista/7 feature that they should have left alone like it was in xp" and in correcting them.. 1 got a little miffed and called bullshit, the other 2 interestingly thought for a moment and then thought it interesting. the 2 that thought admited to putting in a password when they first powered it on... the 1 person insisted they did not... and once again tried to correct them when i knew what thier password was which was something THEY had to have put in at some point, made it clear that they either forgot or being a stuborn jackass, at which point they stormed off....

Re: No login?
Just installed by habit, didn't really think until it was all finished. Though, it was easily fixed when I found out how to.

Re: No login?
It's amazing how many people still don't know (or don't recommend?) this method:
In Windows anythinglaterthan98 go to Start > Run (or winkey + R) and type: control userpasswords2 (press enter/click ok) From there, click on the username that you always want to log in as, uncheck the checkbox marked "Require a password", enter the password of that account (if prompted) then click ok. I use userpasswords2 all of the time at work because that's the only way (other than through the command prompt) that I know how to add a domain user to a local user group. Also, if you're an admin, you can use userpasswords2 to reset other local users' passwords and, amongst other settings that an average user won't need, there's also the checkbox for requiring ctrl+alt+delete.
