Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Win7 64 bit,
System in specs <<<<<<<< First of all, it did not do this at first but after a week or two, during boot and after my screen is up, just about everything is loaded but the "wait" deal is still spinning. (can't call it an hourglass anymore) I hear several "bleep" sounds like you would get when plugging in a USB device. There are two close together and after a short pause a third. They don't seem to effect anything and the system runs fine, it's just that they are "new" sounds and unknown to me..... there are no pop-up notifications in the tray nor messages anywhere. Yes, I do have 3 USB devices, Keyboard, Mouse, and Joystick that have always been on this system and in the same ports. Well, I moved the keyboard to a different port last night but that didn't change anything with these sounds. Odd thing is they seemed to start right around the time I installed the 8 gigs of ram and or upgraded from the Athlon to the Phenom. (both happened on the same day, but I did the ram..... tested, then did the processor...... tested, then I unlocked the cores)........ Probably not associated, but a weird coincidence. ![]() I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, as it runs fine, I just don't like "unknowns"...... ![]() Any Ideas?

Might as well check if they are all properly plugged in. No idea, really.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
At this point i would try booting with no usb devices plugged in. Then if it beeps you know it's something else. If it doesn't beep, then plug one device in and boot and repeat until you narrow down culprit.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Where are the sounds coming from though? Your main speakers, or from the case speaker which runs to your motherboard? Are you using the onboard sound, or a separate sound card?

Unplug one of your monitors and then plug it back in. Tell us if that is the sound you're hearing.

Sound is coming from the main speakers, just like I had plugged in a new piece of gear while the system is up and running......
@ Dyre........ You think this is an eyefinity thing?

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
I'm thinking of the USB Selective Suspend in the Power Settings section of the CP. But it's just a guess...
If it's not that then the sound you're hearing is the Hardware Device Manager service trying to install new hardware and failing every time. You need to go into Device Manager and see if there are any items that are not installed properly or that failed to start. Usually it's just a printer or a phone/pmp connected to the PC.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
No card reader here...... as I said in my first post... my USB devices are Keyboard, mouse, joystick, and all work fine. I also don't get any failed to connect to device messages or anything like that.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Okay.................... Unplugged all USB devices and plugged in a PS2 keyboard. Made the same sounds except there was a 4th.... which was the PS2 keyboard I imagine, as I got a popup box at the same time saying it was installing drivers for PS2 keyboard. This required a reboot which I did. On restarting, again with no USB devices I got the same 3 sounds.
While running this time I plugged in the USB devices and got the same sound for each device as I plugged them in. (that was expected) I shut it down, un-plugged the PS2 and started it again, only to hear 2 beeps both right around the time CCC loaded, so maybe this is an eyefinity thing? I don't know.... I've no idea what happened to the third beep. BTW, no problem devices in Device Manager.........

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
I get some sounds whenever my monitors are detected.
Again, even after the system is up and running, if you unplug, then plug in a monitor, do you get that same sound that you hear when the system is booting up? |

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Have you checked Event Viewer to see if there were any reported errors upon bootup? Specifically, look under Windows Logs | Application and Windows Logs | System. Look for things like application warnings (failed service starts, application conflicts), USB controller failures, AMD graphics related recoveries, device driver failures or detection failures, or if you are running it, any RAID issues.
On a side note, did you do a bios update or was there a bios recovery before this started happening? If so, you might want to check your bios settings for your sound card. Since you are using a separate card make sure the onboard is disabled (it may be set to Auto or Enabled). |

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
@ Dyre, If I disconnect a monitor, (I tried both the VGA connected to the DP to VGA adapter, leaving the adapter connected, and one of the DVI) I get a "disconnect" sound and then a "device connected" sound when plugging back in....... Yes, it's the same sound. When I do this all screens go blank for a few seconds while CCC tries to recreate some semblance of the display group and it will move open programs to available monitors.
The thing is on boot when these questionable sounds happen there is no flickering or blanking of screens. All three screens come up immediately, in eyefinity configuration, on boot and stay that way. Doesn't seem like it's "detecting" anything and they are certainly working without issues. @Tipstaff.... No RAID, no bad USB ports or controllers, Bios update was done before Win7 install. Audio is "disabled" in BIOS, otherwise I wouldn't hear anything.... if set to auto or enabled it disables the Audigy 4..... I was going to try to use both and found out that won't work long before this issue started. I haven't checked the logs yet and am not in front of that system right now.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Okay.... checked the log...... soon after windows logon there are two warnings very close together.
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device Root\SIDESHOW\0001. So what's SIDESHOW??? Other than that, it's clean except for on issue a few days ago about the realtek network controller being disconnected...... I think I shut the router off or unplugged the cable....

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Wasn't able to find that section in Win7 and that seems to be a vista article..... I'm sure it's there in Win7 but I wasn't finding it. I would have no idea what to change in the registry either and that article has nothing to do with the registry.......
While looking I did see SIDESHOW in Device Manager and it was pointing to the Logitech G15 which does have a screen...... I disabled it there and no errors recorded on restart. BUT the bleep sounds are still there, so that's not it...... Any other ideas short of ignore?

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Do you have a UPS that uses USB?
Also, you might use CCleaner and check the Tools/Startup section to see if anything is trying to start but isn't. I turn off all those auto-check for updates items and a few others that really don't need be started each time I turn on the PC. Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide! if you haven't gotten it, yet. While you have it running, go ahead and do the Cleaner and Registry options to take care of any junk and loose ends. |

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
No UPS...... I'm on an isolator/suppressor but it's not a UPS and doesn't use the USB ports. Just those three items I've mentioned on USB....... Wanted to add XP has no issues with this system, so it's not really bad hardware. It's weird Win7
New install of Win7 about a week or two ago.... figured it was too soon for needing CrapCleaner but I'll give that a shot in a little while. Right now I'm installing the new drives that came in today...... *Yay Me* so it will be quite awhile I guess.

Rebooted... Bleep........ Bleep...................................... Bleep.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
I'm going to suggest something rather odd here. Turn your PC off, disconnect your monitors from the PC side, then turn on your PC. Since you won't have the monitors attached, if this is related to the video cards detection of them, then you shouldn't hear any beeps.
I had this a long time ago on my 1950 Pros where the monitor (at the time it was my Viewsonic VP191B) would blink, then blink, then blink again, and each time I had the same issue where it would give a connect/disconnect sound. I finally realized it had to do with the CCC in relation to actively detecting my monitor every time Windows started. BTW, other than Eyefinity, are you running any custom settings within the CCC? Anything related to timings, scaling, or overriding/setting refresh rates? |

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
No CCC is at all stock settings, other than the eyefinity group. I'll try it with no monitors tomorrow.... to late to be mucking with it now. I'll let you know what happens.

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
I fired it up with no monitors connected.... Booted right up, heard windows opening sound, waited a few seconds............. Bleep........ Bleep.......................... Bleep.
![]() Guessing I'll have to live with it, seeing as the system runs fine....... Sure would be nice to know what the heck those are though. ![]() EDIT: Just to see if it made any difference, I disabled eyefinity and went back to extended desktop..... No difference with the sounds on boot so I went back. BTW, Dyre, if you are still reading along.... the preferences for eyefinity and extended don't work the way they should, it will switch from eyefinity to extended but won't switch back. Could be the driver version.......

Re: CCC Preferences/Profiles
I actually only have two set at the moment: Single Display and 3x1 Eyefinity. Those are working. I'll have to spend some time to see about the Extended setup using a profile. Which driver set are you using at the moment? |

Re: Anybody know what this is??? sounds on boot.
Yeah..... Not using HDMI audio so that can be disabled....... Seeing as the sound I'm getting is a "connect" sound and not a "warning" then those that are using HDMI audio would hear this all the time, wouldn't they? Seems there would have been a lot of guys in this thread saying, "oh, that's normal."....... I'll disable them and see what happens, can't hurt one way or the other.
BTW.... only one video card at the moment, waiting on a crossfire bridge to put the other one in..... (I got ahead of myself in my specs) The XFX is in there at the moment. @ Dyre. I installed the 10.12 preview that was on AMD's site a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been back to see if there are any newer ones. Everything seems to be working, so I didn't go looking for older ones either..... I only noticed the "glitch" because I wanted to see if the boot sounds had to do with eyefinity. I tend to leave it in eyefinity all the time, so it's not really a problem.
