need some networking help
I should know what the problem is but I don't, so I need your help team!
I pretty much need to rework my network so that my laptop and desktop have full access to everything. I have to continue to share every single drive and add permissions for each other. Is there anyway to make windows 7 recognize all users on the workgroup to have full control painlessly? If not, what's another way of giving access to each other quickly? |

Re: need some networking help
One that seemed to work the easiest is to setup another user on each computer with the same name as the other that is connecting to it...
Give it full permission.. and then share anything you want... windows 7 will treat it as that specific user and you won't run into nearly as many road blocks... Otherwise disable most of the security (not a great idea).. I haven't actually bothered with networking in this area beyond that of a small business, and in that case it was just one main machine that everyone connected to.

Re: need some networking help
that doesn't make sense why that's happening..
Personally i haven't dived into home networking as today (in the sense of sharing files among them through the network "in that way")..... i find it's really not necessary anymore.... people were doing it and then it's all just stopped because most of everything is internet based.. So actually since just after windows Vista launched... i haven't been doing it really at all.... it's rare....

Re: need some networking help
My ideas (no particular order):
1. Set up a homegroup and assign permissions that way. 2. Set up a domain and join the PCs to it. As you'd only have user accounts on the domain controller the specs can be low. If you want ideas on how to approach this one, I have a few. 3. Turn off password-protected sharing and share more specific folders. 4. Use a NAS box.
