Changing from 32bit to 64bit or 64bit to 32bit...
I don't know if anyone else is noticing it.. but recently there is a pretty huge push for 64bit...
What most people don't realize is that when they purchase a machine or anything with windows on it (win7), that the 32bit version and 64bit versions of the key are interchangeable. Meaning you can use the 32bit key on 64bit and vice versa, PROVIDED that the version of the product is matched. As in.. you cannot use a home basic key on a home premium version or vice versa you cannot use a retail key on an oem version or vice versa However, tracking down your version can be a real pain in the ass.... and recently i found someone that took the time to upload UNTOUCHED, UNMODIFIED, legal copies of each individual version, even the N revision of the OS for countries/regions that require it. They are just the ISO.... you still need a key of your own to activate it.. they do not provide you with information to do so far as i could tell.. they ONLY provide the torrents of the ISO's for you convenience. Considering my situation, i can't for the life of me track down a windows 7 Starter OEM copy anywhere for a recent hardrive crash that occurs to a netbook that had the oem starter and of course no disk... wonderful. Unfortunately I also do not have a starter disk either. And i HATE downloading from anywhere that might have it.. as usually it's dubios... i just want to have a full legal untouched version installed. Finally found this BE FORWARNED, don't do illegal things.. mkay? EDIT~> Removed link, further into the thread... lots of links to activators and hacks... ![]() The first post is all you have to look at, pick your version, and then the sub version for whatever you wish. I recently had a customer that had a laptop preinstalled with pro 64bit only for none of his current programs would work under it, nor would the virtual machine allow it to work properly.... he insisted that i install 32bit on the machine... Again saved by this, as i didn't have a 32bit OEM copy on hand. I don't typically have basic versions either..... And there are a lot of people with retail copies which i also do not have, in which this has saved me a lot of time and of course doesn't require me to track down someone that will let me make a copy of their retail dvd, and it doesn't require me to purchase a retail copy that will never be used JUST to install it on the person machine. It's handy for certain... IF any mod/admin thinks this is a bad link.... feel free to remove it.... It's the only thing i could find that was safe/legal as possible.

Re: Changing from 32bit to 64bit or 64bit to 32bit...
Every Windows 7 disc comes with every version of Windows 7 on it, it's just disabled by the Wizard. If you use the Windows 7 equivalent of nLite (same company) you can create a bootable Windows 7 disc with all of the versions selectable.
I think the architecture (ie: 32-bit or 64-bit) is limited to whichever disc that you used. Also, Dell are exceptional with their Windows 7 licenses; an OEM Windows 7 license from Dell (from my experience) will work with 64-bit and 32-bit and will allow you to use an OEM or retail disc. I've taken advantage of that a few times.

Re: Changing from 32bit to 64bit or 64bit to 32bit...
I cannot use the retail disc using the OEM dell cd key..
I've never been able to.. and out of interest.. i just tried it on a dell computer i have here and it refused it.. I know the other versions are hidden within.. but short of screwing around with 3rd party tools... i prefer to have the right disc when i can.. In the case of starter, which from what i can gather is only available in a 32bit unfortunately.... specially considering how the first intel Atom cpu with 64bit allow 4gb DDR3 modules to be installed provided with the latest bios update. (potentially 8gb DDR3 modules too)

Seriously.. Just download a 64bit off a site and use your key.
I love 64bit as I have 16 gigs of ram. |
