Vista & Radeon 9200 LE edition?

I recently installed Windows Vista on my computer.. but since there are no drivers for the 9200 LE in vista, all my games, functions are crappier than XP!

I cant even use True Color on my desktop and my counter-strike can only use System Graphics and not D3D or Open GL and some games dont even have sound cause of this.

Is there any way to fix this?

Pretty sure Vista does not consider anything below DX9 as worthy, so the only way to really fix it is with a better card - or a return to XP.

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven.

According to the Requirements for VISTA, only cards that are completely DirectX9 and above are supported. Your card is a DX8 card and does not meet the minimum requirements for VISTA.

Not even AMD/ATI plan to support this card under VISTA and have stated that they will not continue to even support this card under XP. The latest XP drivers to support the Legacy cards like yours is Catalyst 6.11. Prior to that support stopped for them at Cat. 6.5.

If you plan to stick with VISTA, your only option is to upgrade to a DirectX 9 video card.

Good luck!

Dyre, you are dead wrong... The card can run Vista without Aero so long as he uses the default drivers.

Please read his post again. He IS using the default drivers and IS running Vista.

The problem is, there is NO VISTA DRIVERS from ATI/AMD that will support this card for the 3D games he wants to play.

My answer is dead on correct. ATI will not be providing drivers for this card under VISTA. In fact, ATI will not be providing newer drivers even under XP. The most recent XP drivers that support this card are the CAT 6.11s. Prior to those, the last ones were the CAT 6.5s.

The only Vista support is with a fallback "generic" VGA or maybe SVGA driver - as rough as using the equivalent low-grade option in XP.

Two alternatives:

1. Go back to WinXP, it's still got some life left in it, and especailly if the rest of the system is similar in capability, will run faster

2. Upgrade the graphics, though if it's limited to PCI (old PCI, that is, not PCI-E), forget it! If this is AGP, then there are ATI and Nvidia options in AGP...
Taking an example UK supplier, if you want a really cheap option, cards based on the Geforce 6200 AGP look like a winner, not the bees knees, but they have to be better than the only other options (polling a sub-£30 range at ebuyer) of a Radeon 9550.

http://www.techimo.com/forum/t170325.html - Hmm, one dislike for the 6200, but the rest positive or "get something better". These are BOTTOM END DX9 solutions, with a possibility that even they might not be up to Aero Glass requirements, but definitely within "supported driver" territory.

Something better, such as a Radeon X1600 AGP model, would be advisable as anything more than a stopgap solution.

thats not entirly true, i know this is a little late to reply but users looking for help with this later can use this.

Vista RC1 and the Beta's shipped with leagacy drivers and ATI offered some for it.

Download ATI Catalyst Video Driver Beta Vista RC1 Driver for Windows Vista - Softpedia

these are the last ATI drivers to support Radeon 7000-9200 for Vista.
