ati x850 and vista
I have an ati and an x850 and im running vista home.
The base drivers that were installed for the card during the install of vista let me run 1440x900 *what i run in xp no problem* but as soon as i try to update to the newest ATI drivers, I get locked out of all resolutions except 800x600 and 1024x768. would anyone know why this happens? why would it work at first but not work with newer drivers? I have a hanns-g HW192D monitor that claims to *not need drivers* If anyone has a suggestions, I would appreciate it. thank you. |

Could be various reasons.
Firstly installing the drivers without being an administrator can cause issues so make sure you didn't do that. Got TV Out enabled? that will limit your resolution choices. Check what refreshrate your monitor is running at too. CCC will limit the resolution based on refreshrate so if its set to say 75 then it will only show the resolutions that can support 75Hz. If its set to say 60Hz then it should let you enable the maximum resolution. Check that the tickbox for hide unsuported resolutions isnt ticked. If none of those are an issue then its the fact its using the windows plug and play drivers rather than its own so either make an INF with powerstrip or add whatever resolutions you need with powerstrip. The HW191D needs an INF file to perform correctly so I dont see why the HW192D wouldn't also. http://www.fastsilicon.com/content/view/51/42/1/4/

This is probally a dumb question, but did you use the Vista ATI driver or the XP one. I have an X800XL with a widescreen Samsung 225BW and had no resolution problems.

I will go check the various things mentioned, but I AM using the vista drivers, I know that much. =)
as for the monitor, it did come with a CD, but with XP it never asked for a driver and when I tried to force one on it, it wouldnt read a driver on the CD i got with the monitor so *dumbly* I trashed the CD. I have emailed the makers of the monitor and they replied with "the monitor needs no drivers, thank you" So if someone could point me in the direction where I could download the drivers, I would be grateful also, I will go check the other stuff now =) |

I had no idea that the CCC considered the connection to my TV "ON" even though I wasnt actively using it or cloning to the TV. I had to actually Disable it and now I can go 1440x900 and 75 refresh!!!! Thank you very much man. Also, if you know where I could get a driver for my monitor I would be even more grateful. Dunno why vista has to act like such a punk arse. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

If you Disable DDC, though, you have to be careful not to select settings that are beyond your monitor's capabilities. |
