The Catalyst Suite package includes graphics driver, CCC and ATI chipset drivers/filters.
The screen shot indicates that it is installing north bridge filters. Therefore, knowing more system details particularly mobo/chipset, might provide some clues. (Opps, just noticed the signature. Thats an ATI chipset for sure and an ASUS mobo. Details on what components are enabled or in use might point us to the specific filter that the installer can't find.) If there are devices on the mobo that are not in use you could try disabling them, if they aren't already. Thanks, CC Last edited by CATALYSTCATCHER; Apr 21, 2007 at 12:59 PM. |

![]() Anything here that helps? In my "other devices" I think one is a weird card in a slot where the other video card is supposed to go. I am not going crossfire until I need to-afford it. I still need a good soundcard, my X-FI and X-FI Extreme Gamer both didn't work. And they haven't made 5.1 compatible onboard sound drivers for my Soundmax. X64 Vista I meant.

Sorry dude, I am not ignoring you. But I have been busy. I have not found anything obvious as a cause for the INF failure message as yet.
Aside from the error message and unknow devices are there any items that should be working but are not? Onboard raid controller or something else? I am looking for other clues. Thanks CC |

![]() Everything is working fine. But what's up with that card in my other PCI slot? The company I bought the mobo from said "don't pull it out unless you buy another X1900xtx." I haven't, but I am having issues. The card is in that pic above. Highlighted.

The card in the PCIe slot closest to the CPU enables 16 lane support when you only have graphics card. When you add a second graphics card , you obviously remove the existing card and place the 2nd graphics card in the slot. In this configuration you have dual 8 lane (Crossfire) support. The little card you see now is a simple alternative to having switches or other complex configurations on the motherboard.
The error during driver installation could easily be a bug in the installer software rather than being a real physical problem. Aside from the error message during installation what other issues are you having? The first item listed under other devices (device manager) has me curious as it does look like it is ATI related. Do you have a TV tuner card in the system? If so, what is it? |

I was having the same issues as eberyone else with the BSOD intil I installed that patch you guys made. No orblems at all now except when I use Overdrive I had a few crashes in some 3planesoft screensavers, but when I disabled it, the crahses stopped.
These are Cat 7.4's. No tuner card. No sound card (I had 2 X-Fi's I gave away cause they crashed my machine) No real problems, just questions about some things. And, for the record, ATI rules. Thanks for all your help!

Hmmm. Seems we have a real mystery. But the error message is most likely due to an installer bug which means we will have to keep digging.
Overdrive, basically pushes the card harder, so crashes that occur when it is enabled could come from many sources. Things to consider are heat and power. The most difficult to troubleshoot is power. Particularly if the power supply is rated to handle your needs. The symptoms can be very strange and extremely random. I have experienced a few systems that were flaky but seemed to work ok, until the day the power supplies actually failed and forced an upgrade. :-) These systems have been folding 24/7 for months without a glitch. Anyway, things to consider. |
