Weeeeoorrrreeeeorrrr (crash)

I have an x1900xtx (512) and x1900crossfire edition (512) running crossfire. Sometimes when I am playing games (especially Crysis every few seconds) my screen goes black and my fans on my card spin up going "Weeeeeeoooorrrweeeeeorrrr" and then either the game crashes to desktop, crashes my machine so it reboots, or recovers in the game. It got so bad in Crysis I had to uninstall it completely. I get an error saying "ATI Display Driver Stopped Responding and Recovered." Is there a hotfix for this?

It's happing more with the 8.1 drivers. It happened with the 7.12's but not as often.

I have Overdrive on but no other OC's. I have a decent machine. 700watt psu, FX-60 clocked to 2.7mhz, Azuntech Prelude soundcard, 4gb ram, WD 10k rpm HD.

I can play most games like COD4 with it happening maybe once every 20 minutes. Crysis it's constant even with the settings on 800x600 with everything on low.

Thanks in advance.

Love,
Shammy

Just for reference: Does it happen if you disable Crossfire?

Yes it does. It does it with one card in there also. I haven't tried to disable "Overdrive" because I am not sure how too. The only option I get in the CCC is "Preserve overdrive setting at logon" button. I assume if I uncheck that and reboot overdrive will be turned off.

Maybe I am not giving enough volts to the cards? In the bios there is an option of 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 volts. I have it at 1.3 volts pci-e. Not sure what volts these cards run at.

I found out what is was after all! I disabled Overdrive on my crossfire cards and I played Crysis (which was unplayable) I played it for 2 hours with awesome framerates and not a single crash. I even played with everything on high at 1680x1050 at a decent click with this cvar someone made that looks like DX10.

This has happened with alot of my games but especially Crysis. Shame I have been putting up with it for almost 2 years now before I got it. I am just stoked. I played all the way to the ice level not one crash!

Glad to know it's been resolved!

So, now you can Crossfire but without Overclocking. Sounds good enough to me.
