Help with TV-OUT on RADEON X1950 Pro
Hey everyone,
I'm having a hard time getting my TV out to work. Here's the scenario. Graphics Card: Radeon X1950 Pro Primary Monitor: ACER AL2216W (1680x1050 60Hz) TV: Samsung DLP (HLP series) Connected with component O/S: Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit) Software: Catalyst Control Center 2008.0602.2243.38732 Problem: No secondary display available... In the displays manager it shows 2 attached displays (one looks like a CRT TV the other looks like a flat screen TV) but they're greyed out and I can't do anything with them. In the displays there is a "1" and a "2" but the 2 is greyed out. When I try to activate the secondary display by clicking on the screen with the "2" on it my monitor (not the TV) blinks and just goes back like nothing happened. My TV is on and set to component. Anyone have any idea? Thanks so much!!! I'd be eternally greateful if someone can help me solve this. |

You have your monitor plugged into the wrong port. One port controls either a monitor or the TVout port, it can't run both at the same time so use the other port.

oh really? Damn.. so, there's no way to do dual screens at the same time then? I feel jipped. They advertise it as TV-out and from that I thought you could use your monitor and have a dual output on your TV.

You can have 2 monitors or 1 monitor and 1 tv. What you cannot do is have 2 monitors and 1 tv at the same time.
So you have your 1950 hooked to the acer via DVI or VGA? Then you have the samsung hooked via the component splitter? That should work. Drag the grayed tv from the "attached displays currently disabled" section to the "desktop 2" box. It should activate it. You might have to add some hdtv modes in the tab under "display options". Which will read something like "component hdtv".

I have the acer hooked up to VGA and the TV hooked up to component. In my Catalyst Control Center under "Display Manager" there are 2 TV's. One looks like a regular TV and one looks like a flat screen. Both are greyed out and I can't do anything with them. I can't right click or drag them anywhere. If I try it just gives me a symbol that looks like a no smoking sign (without the cigarette).
Under display options I tried both to detect my display whenever catalysit control center is opened and also I tried Use manual detection... none work. Force TV detection is checked. Help!

The "no smoking icon" should change when you drag it over the "display 2" box. So just to double check, the tv icon is gray, you grab it with the mouse, drag it to the display box, it should change to an arrow, let go of the mouse?

Still nothing...
Hi guys,
The no smoking symbol without the cigarette.. I'll now call it the "circle-slash symbol" is always on when I try and drag. In fact, it never turns into anything else when I try to drag it anywhere. The odd thing is that I'm able to swap displays from the acer to the TV but the TV doesn't work and then the acer is blanked out (obviously) and so I need to reboot after this. Thanks for the replies guys, keep them coming please

hmmm... then i'm out of ideas for now. I too have a Samsung DLP and 2 LCDs. I disable my 2nd LCD, hook the component cables to the TV, plug the other end into the vid card, turn TV on and switch to component input, press "detect displays" (note i don't have "force tv detection" enabled), the TV icon appears, i drag it to the "desktop 2" box and drop it in (changes from N/A icon to an arrow), gives you the choice to extend or clone, select one and then it gets activated in the right gray display manager box.

I just F-ing LOVE you! Thanks to you guys I fixed my problem with my tv-out. I just had to change the port, and voila! IT WORKED! Just bought the EAH4870 1gb. Since it costs a lot money, especially for a student like me, I was really worried I had done something to break it. Thank you so much! you made my day! noo.. my whole year!
