8.8 catalyst vista 64 bit wrong montior resolution

I have tried everything i can think of, here is the problem,

Windows vista 64 bit, Rampage extreme mobo, 4 gb ram, q9650, 4870 x2 MSI video card, Samsung 245bw montior,

catalyist 8.8 inspite of having the correct monitor driver only shows the 245bw as having a max resolution of 1680 x 1050, the naitve resolution is 1920 x 1200, I have tried everything i can think of, reinstalling, cleaning, reinstalling the os, bios seeting, and i can not get the catalyst driver to recognize the native resolution of the monitor correctly,it reports the max resolution for the syncmaster as 1680 x 1050 75hz, I have tried forcing it but he max resolution there using the tv dispaly is 1920 x 1080 at 60 hz which is bad for the monitor. Any suggestions would be appreciated, i am at the end of my rope.

thanks Uzial

You can try what I have to do with my Sony FW900:

Open CCC ADVANCED.

Click on Monitor Properties 0. It might just say Monitor Properties. I have 0 and 1, but I have 2 monitors.

Make sure you are in Attributes.

Untick the box "Use Extended Display Identification...".

Set the Maximim Resolution and Maximim refresh rate to the values you want. I use 1920x1200/200Hz, but I have a CRT, so you might just want to use 60Hz since that's your monitor's native resolution.

Click Apply.

That should allow you you go back to Displays Manager and choose the resolution you wish.

vista 64 bit does not allow me to deselct the samnsung as my primary desipaly and al

it still wont work thanks for the suggestion, i have never been so damned frustrated in allmy life with a driver not recognizing hardware resolutions on a monitor, i wish i knew where the ati drivers store maximum montiro resolutions so i could hard change it , or override it. I am about to send it back its so frustrating after a solid week of this.

I had windows vista 64 bit load the generic lcd panel 1920 by 1200 at 60 hz profile and the catalyst driver still ignores the correct maximum resolution and misreports it at 1650 by 1080 at 75 hz. I have tried to determine where it gets the information on the hardware and what its possible resoltuion are, but i can not locate a dat file, or xml file in atis folders that would indicate what it should be. I think the driver is defective if anyoen out ther can help i would appreciate it.

hmm i must be luck that my max is 1680x1050. so my dual monitors works fine with a similiar setup. Is there not a max to windows resolutions from combined total?

After you made the change in MONITOR PROPERTIES, and tried to set the monitor to 1920x1200, did you make sure to select the REFRESH RATE first, and then the Resolution?

Another thing you can try is to install the generaic P-n-P monitor drivers, and see if that makes a difference. And it that doesn't work, try the genaric NON P-n-P.

Also, are you using 2 monitors or just the one?

Also you made reference to using the TV Display...why?

I am using only one monitor, a samsung 245bw with a native resolution of 1920 by 1200, i was attempting to us eth etv resoltuion settings in ccc to allow me to go to 1920 by 1200 by utilizing the 1080 6hz selection, but alas it only allows 1920 by 1080 which will ruin my monitor.

That setting is for when you are using a TV as output.

You need to go to DISPLAYS MANAGER using CCC-Advanced.

Set the Desktop Area, Color quality, and Refresh rate there.
