Vista 64 Media Centre - display driver stopped responding

Hi Guys,

Is anyone having problems with Windows Media Centre in Vista?

I'm running Vista 64 SP1 and an Sapphire 4870 X2 with Cat 8.10 (was same with 8.9).

What's happening is Media Centre lockups up after about 20-30 seconds, and a msg pops up to say the display driver has stopped responding but has recovered. This happens every time.

I've had a browse around and seen people with this error msg, and seen some posts about ATI's 7.3 driver? But haven't seen anything about Media Centre and latest cat's (8.9 and 8.10).

Apart from this problem, everything else is fine. Games, benchmarks and general windows use run's no issues.

Can anyone help?

Cheers guys.

First time I've heard this.

Here's a stab in the dark. As an experiment, try disabling CAT AI in the CCC and see if you still get the lock ups.

Tried Catalyst AI both disabled and set to advanced, still no dice. Been checking and unchecking boxes in the CCC, but cant find anything that helps

Sorry to hear that. Make sure you turn CAT AI back on when you game. Off disables onboard Crossfire with the X2.

The only time I've received the specific error message you mention in the past is when I was overclocking my graphics card too far. That goes for both nVidia and ATi.

You may want to ask around B3D. Those fellows are a shrewd crowd-

Also you may want to give Cat 11 RC 1 a whirl-

Catalyst 8.11 RC1 (8.542) - Rage3D Discussion Area

If I think of any bright ideas I'll add them to the thread.

The media center works fine for me with Vista HP x64 SP1. I'm using Cat 8.10 here. I'm running it with an Avermedia usb tuner. No issues. So far so good.

Idle temps are 45/50 with the fan @ 39%.
