ATI 4870X2 Performs Bad On Both Crysis games

PLEASE READ AND HELP ME!

I have absolutely all of the latest drivers, included CCC 8.10 pluss a recently formatted and installed Vista x64 and the SP1 for Vista x64. I also have the latest chipset BIOS.

Crysis and Crysis Warhead still have unplayable low fps. When I am running 1920x1200 on the monitor and every graphical settings on full it renders about 15-20 fps. And that is with no anti-aliasing. Everything else is on full graphics settings. Which is a totally unplayable performance.

Some reviews show that 4870X2 should provide the users with 40-50 frames pr second with the same game settings.

I own my own computer company so I have pretty good knowledge about PC's and hardware.

I am Norwegian though so my english is not very good

I have also tried to uninstall the drivers, and remove all extra driver leftovers with Driver Cleaner.NET and installed fresh 8.11 RC driver that was newly released. Then it said that the driver is not properly installed or that I didn't have the hardware for this driver. That is a little weird I think. I tried to install it many times with custom install and all components, then removed it because I got the same error message, then I installed with express. Removed again and then started the setup from the bin64 folder. That did not work either. Nothing works with the 8.11 RC driver. Which is really dissapointing.

Will 8.9 driver increase the performance maybe?

I have Catalyst A.I. on advanced too. I am also running two screens in clone mode so this should not have an effect on the crossfirex? In other words, both cores will perform just as good (or as bad) compared to running a single screen?

I have also checked that the core and mem clocks boost up to the correct values (780/900) when starting a 3D application.

My system specs:

MSI K9A2 Platinum V2 (latest BIOS)

MSI R4870X2-T2D2G-OC

AMD Phenom 9850 (with TLB fix enabled in BIOS)

CPU Cooler that came with the CPU

8 GB OCZ 5-5-5 RAM

Creative X-Fi PCI-E Xtreme Audio

Samsung 320 GB HDD (brand new, everything OK in S.M.A.R.T)

Samsung 22x DVD-recorder

Chieftec 1000 Watt PSU (using both power connectors of course)

2x25cm fans + 1x12cm fan (extremely good airflow, gaming case)

Fans are cooling all the system components with MUCH airflow, so no temp problems. CPU 35 degrees celsius, HDD 24 degrees celsius, graphic card 50-60 degrees at full load on both cores

Try it without cloning the display and see how it performs...

Those frames do seem low, but they're not ridiculous, as in the 2 fps you might expect if you had a really serious issue.

I'd have thought that cloning would take a little out of it, and bare in mind that reviewers will be running absoloutely top notch systems, most likely with overclocked core 2 duos or core 2 quads.

Also, most reviewers systems have NOTHING else on them... They're always a fresh install, with basically nothing but Windows and the game, benchmarking tools, and FRAPS.

In the SP demo at 1680x1050 (my monitors maximum) I easily stayed over 30 FPS with everything maxed... No AA though, I don't think...

At that resolution, though, unless you have a MASSIVE screen and sit close, you're not likely to have an issue with jaggies...

I tried to use single screen aka remove cloning. Didnt work.

However, the card is performing like a hellstorm on farcry 2

ALL settings set to full. Absolutely all, including full AA. About 28-45 fps

average about 35. Isnt that good? It is what it should be right?

I think that's about right, yes.

In crysis, does lowering your resolution have a significant impact on FPS? If it doesn't this suggests a bottlekneck that is not related to the GPUs, e.g. a CPU bottlekneck.

When i lower the resolution to for example 1280x800 i get extremely good fps. havent measured, but i would guess 60+ with all graphics on full, no AA.

Can it be defect RAM that causes the issue?

That's very unlikely - this would show itself up in other ways. It could be caused by very slow ram, but I see no reason to suspect this above anything else based on the information you've given.

You might want to try measuring fps in crysis, it can be deceptive. What is it like in benchmarks?

installing drivers overtop in vista64 with my 4870x2 is fantastic for me

wait did you mention using catAI on just standard? when i put it to advanced, crossfire stopped in vantage (half fps, same as catAI off)

i have yet to acquire crysis to test on vista64sp1 (& on xp64)

oh & what about the 32bit vs 64bit crysis game exe?
