hd 2600 xt in vista sleep mode problems

hey i really hope someone can help because this is starting to frustrate me bad. my problem is i have a 2600 xt 256 mb in a dell inspiron 530 desktop and have my monitor hooked up thru dvi and my tv thru hdmi. my problem is when playing games and some movies the monitor just goes into sleep mode and wont wake up. i have to shutdown with the button and when it boots back up i get no errors or anything so it makes it hard to figure out what the problem is. i have tried 3 or 4 different drivers and all do the same thing. the only thing i can think of is the power supply is not large enough at 300w but i only have 1 hd 1 cdrom keyboard mouse and thats it which should make it alright and i think you get bluescreens when its a power issue. if anyone can help with this i will be so grateful and if in my rambling i have missed some info please ask me to explain something im just not very good at typing out my thoughts. sorry. and thanks

You may be right about the PSU not being powerful enough. But, before changing it out for a more powerful one, try this:

Right click on a blank spot on your Windows Desktop;

Select Screen Saver;

Click on "Change power settings";

Click on "Choose when to turn off the display"'

At the option "Turn off the display" click the dropdown menu and select "Never".

Click on the "Save Changes" and then exit back out to Windows.

Try this for a while and see if the Screen goes to sleep anymore.

Good luck!

Re: hd 2600 xt in vista sleep mode problems

trying it...will play fallout 3 tonight cause thats the game that does it the most and will give it a try. also could it be a heat problem...during video playback it only goes to 58c but i cant seem to monitor it during games without alt tab and that screws up fallout for me so it wouldnt work anyway. wish i could keep a temp log.

I would suspect a PSU problem first. These cards are able to withstand much higher temps. BUT, the higher the temps go, the more power they drain...and the more power they drain, the better the PSU has to be.

What is the AMP rating on your 12V Rail on that PSU?
