AVIVO Vista problem. Works fine in XP tho.

Hello. Here are my specs
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz
X1950 PRO 256DDRAM3
4 GIG OCZ DDR2 800hz
All drivers are up to date as I just recently downloaded them

80gig - WinXP sp3
500gig - Vista sp1

So I have the option of booting into either XP or Vista.

On XP, I can change the color , do interlace and everything in the AVIVO tab in the Catalyst driver. Which means, when I play a video I can change the brightness , contrast right away. I play alot of mkv or HD stuff.

On Vista , I try to adjust the settings in AVIVO but it does do anything to the videos being played.

I googled and learned that you need certain decoders etc. On the XP boot, I found out that the decorder was set to CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8.) So I downloaded K Lite and use VMCD along with DECCHECK to set the default codec to CyberLink.

It did not work. I even set it to ATI Mpeg decoder, and it still doesnt work. I cant seem to get AVIVO to work on the Vista boot. It works fine on the XP boot. I boot into Vista and just keep XP as a back up. But I want to use AVIVO to change the contrast and color. I'm not asking to use the hardware acceleration because I already know media player classic and VLC does not support it.

Conclusion...
I want to use Media Player Classic to play mkv etc.
Downloaded K lite codec. The files play.
I want to change the color , contrast etc in the AVIVO setting.
Does not work for Vista but works for XP.

Please help.

Re: AVIVO Vista problem. Works fine in XP tho.

It's about the video output mode and limitations imposed on Vista to be DRM compliant. I'm using Media Player Classic Home Cinema and it the controls work with the video output mode EVR Custom Pres. There may be other modes where it works as well.

Re: AVIVO Vista problem. Works fine in XP tho.

Thank you mkk! The EVR Custom Pres does work.

Update.. I got VLC to work with AVIVO. I can now change and adjust color and contrast etc.

I got VLC to work with AVIVO by changing the video output to something else beside default. I change mine to Direct X.

Just some more questions.
1. What are overlays, is that the same as color corrections?
2. I'm not sure which decorder to use... ffshow, Microsoft mpeg2,ATI ,Cyber link. I'm not worried about cpu usage at the moment. I want quality tho.
It seem I'm getting werid pixelation during dark scenes at night.
3. How do I get rid of the Blue information in MPC Home Cinema. The Blue information at the top that tells you speed, time in film.
4. I want to se Home Cinema as the default player but Media Player Classic (Without EVR) is the one set.

Oh and Thanks you for helping.

Re: AVIVO Vista problem. Works fine in XP tho.

1) I'm not sure what overlays you refer to, but it is one of the oldest output modes for video still used today.
2) I don't use any separate decoders at all except for Quicktime video. The rest (DivX/XviD,H.264,AC3) is handled very well internally by MPC-HomeCinema. I used FFDshow in the past and it provides a ton of settings and if one needs to tweak the image or sound.
3) Normally those blue indicators should only appear briefly when the respective setting like volume is changed. If it appears constantly then you've managed to trigger something that I haven't seen before.
4) If you run MPC and uncheck all boxes in the Player>Formats settings and then run MPC-HomeCinema and check the formats you want it to run, it should work.
