Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

Hi!

This setup ~works w/ bundled MS generic driver but very low performance.

Are there Vista 32-bit drivers for this card available (Vista drivers should work in W7 as well) or are there some tricks to get XP drivers working in Vista/W7?

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

the radeon 9200 and lower cards are no supported in either vista or win7..... support is limited to windows xp only and with driver sets 6.11/6.5's and below.

it's an obsolete video adapter.

Your only option for anyone that is presented with VGA standard support only is to manually select from the ms hardware list the radeon 9000 supplied driver and run in MS limited mode. (this will give you widescreen resolution support)

Sorry

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

I am also having trouble with the Radeon 9200 and the generic driver. I couldn't find the Radeon 9000 driver in the list of drivers provided in windows 7. Are there any others that might work? Has any one found a way just to get the wide screen format to work at something better than the 800x600 that I am running now. 1024x768 cuts off the sides but I might have to deal with that I guess.

Thanks,

I´m having the same problem, and our only hope might be to keep an eye on this - OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the ATI & NVIDIA Omega Drivers. ATI Windows Vista

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

I face the same problem with my Ati Radeon 9200 SE graphics card and no solution so far.

I currently have Windows 7 32 bit build 7600 and I can't find any working drivers that can recognize my card on Win7 or Vista.

So if anyone has any solution to this I'd like to know.

Thanks for your precious time. Regards.

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

Hi, I installed the ATI 6-11 driver set and it works but the comp won't shut down normally. I have to switch off holding my start button in for 5 seconds. There are compatibility problems which ATI or Microsoft are not interested in fixing as the Radeon 9200SE card is considered obsolete. This Post is being done using the Win7 RC build 7100 and the screen resolution is 1024x768. Hope this helps.

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

jiiteepee, and anyone else trying to figure this out, I have the solution.

I just installed Windows 7 RC, and can only assume it works in the RTM (it does). First, download the drivers for the 9200se (these will be the xp drivers). Second, extract the package (this is basically running the .exe you just downloaded).

The package will extract in an ATI folder on your C: drive. It will then try installing the driver, at which point it should fail. If it doesn't fail, cancel it, all we want is the extracted folder.

Third, go to your device manager (in control panel) and open up the display adapter tree. Right click on the "standard VGA adapter" and click "update driver software."

Fourth, click on "browse my computer for driver software" and paste ... C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-11-PRE-R300_XP-2K_DD_CCC_WDM_38185\DRIVER ... in the field to search for. Otherwise you can just click "browse" and go to that folder.

Fifth, click "next" let it install, and restart. After you boot back up you should have the drivers installed.

Now, just keep in mind these are old drivers, 5/3/2006. I also did not notice a gain in performance after installing these drivers. I had a 1.0/1.0 score for my graphics subsection on the Windows Performance Rating, and a small increase of 1.9/1.0 after installing these drivers. But, if some of you need this driver update to get better resolution, this should do the trick. No Aero obviously... Good luck!

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

I am going to Solve my 9200SE problem using a X800 Pro, I have upgraded the Motherboard of another computer to a PCI Express format so I now have a better card to replace the 9200 SE in the NF7-S.

Windows loves newer technology I believe that the older machines are better suited for a lessor operating system like Linux (I know that will take hits) Heh Heh! Seriously Linus does excel at keeping older standards going. I don't know if the 9.8 Cats just released for Linux will support the 9200 series or not, but I suspect they will

A letter writing campaign to MS or ATI might be another option. They will support them is there is enough need I would think.

"DNA-ATi Vista/Win7 9.3" should work. Unfortunately the developer's site has been down for ages and I can't find any mirror for the file...

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

I found a copy of DNA 9.3 driver and uploaded to Rapidshare. This is 32 bit version.
I would appreciate feedback, since I plan to upgrade to Win7 in the near future.

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

this DNA 9,3 thing - it doesn't work. I personally couldn't find anything to make this card work 100%, but ccoltmanm's idea worked out best, at least compared to other stuff I've found. may not be working 100% right, but it's about 70-75% working.

Thank you for the feedback. It is interesting that the description specifically includes Radeon 9200 among other cards and Vista and Win7 OSes.
About 100 people downloaded the file, but at least one of them gave some feedback.
Thanks again.

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

Is that Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?

If it's x64, you're out of luck.

For 32-bit, you can try what ccoltman said above, download latest XP drivers for that card, start the installation and when it fails after unpacking, update manually through Device Manager from the location where they were unpacked. Be wary that this might introduce problems when shutting down your PC.

Re: Windows 7 & Radeon 9200

Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone could help. I did what ccoltmanm ages ago and it worked, got blue screen when i shut down my computer but thats ok.

I reinstalled windows 7 to give the computer to my parents, (fresh start) and when I choose 'select driver manually' and highligth the catalyst folder, it brushes past and says my best driver software is already installed. Even though I cant get past 1024x768 resolution on a 24" monitor.

Any help??
