Installed without any problems, let's see how they are.

Same here...which is better than the 8.12's. I couldn't get that set to install for some reason.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

I couldn't help testing this under Windows 7(x64). The good thing is that the installer worked where others including the Win7 beta driver had locked up. The downside is that CCC fails to run instead. I'm guessing there will be another Win7 beta fairly soon.
Edit: CCC is working now after some driver cleaning and reinstall.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

CCC is working in Win 7 beta for me.

When I installed the 9.1s it was odd that when it finished installing it didn't ask for a re-boot though.

I re-booted, tried CCC, and it went right to it.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

9.1's seem as good as always
a new year a new set of monthly goodies
I'll try it on a Win7 x64 machine later

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask, but you guys are all ATI users so why not:
I have an HD2600xt 512mb and I'm looking to up it a notch ... what do you recommend in the sub-200$ CDN range?
I'd like GDDR5 memory but I realise those cards cost a bit more ... but maybe there's a company out there with better prices (i've had a Powercolor in the past, no problems there, and now I'm using a Sapphire... no issues)

Funny thing is, in Dead Space / Fallout 3 / Far Cry 2 / LOTR Conquest my graphics are top notch and fast too
but in some other games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. my card fails miserably !

8.12s (32bit) didn't ask for a reboot either and CCC worked right away, and I think that some other driver also didn't do it, I wonder if it's a bug or maybe a Win7 feature?

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

Well, another silky smooth install and no problems so far. I got back HalfLife2 games which wouldn't load on 8.12. BF2 still crashes to desktop... will have to look into that.

Too bad about the multi-core support, i really thought they would be in this release.

I can't comment on the 8.12s since I couldn't get them to install in XP, Vista or Win 7. However, with the 9.1s, I installed, it didn't ask for a re-boot, I tried opening CCC, and it gave me an error message saying that the drivers weren't installed. That went away after I manually re-booted. and CCC works just like it does in XP and Vista.

I keep hoping to see a change in CCC for those of us that have X2 cards. Sure would be nice to see TEMP and ACTIVITY meters for both GPUs there.

Catalyst drivers will have multithreading support, so if you have a dual-core you would see 10% performance increases and around 20% for quads.

You mean running the actual driver with more than one core? Is there a point for that?

actually there is.... load balancing the various aspect of the driver.... considering that everything has to go through the driver before the graphics card can do anything with it.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

The point is that we want more games, apps and now drivers to support multiple cores. Whatever increase it will bring is welcome. Everyone always says "you don't need a quad core cpu, there are no games that can make use if it". Multitasking is a good use of a quad but i'll also take any boost multithreaded drivers bring.

need to test more games other than GTA4, which is crashing worse than 8.12+patch1, may or may not be related to drivers or patch2, which the official rockstar link took down the patch2 installer & you can only dload patch1 (december 12) off it

So far 9.1 is my favourite driver. Very good job and fixed some of the major problems I had with it.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

Hi Guys

Hope you may be able to help...

I just got a 4870X2 card and installed it in my system with catalyst 8.12.

Everything ran fine until i tried to update to 9.1....when i try to install that version i get an error about .INF file missing or not found.

I ran driver cleaner before the attempted update and still got the same error after a few attempts.

I eventually ran driver cleaner again and went back to 8.12 which is okay.

Can you suggest anything for me to try ??

Thanks

Wow

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

Just try installlling the 9.1s on top of the 8.12s with out running a driver cleaner or uninstalling anything.

For the last 6 month, or maybe longer, it's been unnecessary to uninstall anything before you update. The newer CATS do an uninstall of the old drivers as part of the install.

If anything, lately, it seems that the various "driver cleaners"' out there cause more troubles than they are worth.

Hi Oldbuzzard

Thanks for the reply, i remembered needing to use driver cleaner ages ago and just thought it would still be the case.

I'll try what you suggest and see how i go

Thanks

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

I tried installing 9.1 over the top of my 8.12 and still got the INF file missing error.

So i uninstalled all the ATI software in windows control panel and rebooted.

I then installed the driver i got with my card and then 8.12, everything worked well.

When i again tried to install 9.1 i got the same INF file not found error again.

Should i clean install Vista and try 9.1 again are these drivers worth the effort ???

who made your x2? (wowman)

earlier, just under 2hrs of BF2142 & it crashed, with 'faulting module' atiumdag.dll error

as for gta4, consistently crashes after 25-35min, got some rivatuner logs, memory nearing 4gb usage, PF at 4gb for a while, & USUALLY crashes with atiumdag.dll as the 'faulting module', gonna test with medium textures & lower view distance sometime

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.1 Display Driver for Windows Vista

since having installed (mobility modded) catalyst 9.1, during every startup my taskbar first appears properly (start button, language icon and clock), then dissappears completely (black empty area instead), and after some 1-2mins reappears again, and then all the other icons in the tray appear and the system is ready. also some icons like the volume icon dont appear at all, although "place icon in the taskbar" in control panel is checked and behavior of the volume icon is set to always show in the taskbar options (even hide inactive icons unchecked doesnt make them appear).

i dont know whether this happens due to the installation of catalyst 9.1, or something else (cant remember doing any major changes to the system in the past week), but it certainly wasnt like that some 8-9 days ago.

winxp pro sp3
mobility radeon hd 2600
mobility modded catalyst 9.1 installed over a perfectly working mobility modded catalyst 8.12 installation.

if my topic suits better to another forum, feel free to move it there, i just thought it would be good to post it here since the only change i did to the system in the past week was having installed catalyst 9.1

thanks
