What is a North Bridge Filter "Driver"

Exactly what is a North Bridge Filter driver, what is it filtering and what exactly does it affect in terms of things, related to AMD Processors (As they have an onboard Northbridge) Is it making sure the memory timings are filtered? Errors checked? Cleaned Waxes?

Can someone explain it? I cant really find much information other then it's a driver I need, and seems to be the only thing updated for the Vista Chipsets besides Avivo 64... Thanks for info provided

(I couldn't figure out exactly where this belonged topic wise, but it is catalyst drivers... so Yea)

Since when does everyone think the memory controller on the cpu is the 790FX chip set ? That driver is just a 700 class (780GX to 790FX) chip set driver which is the North Bridge on the Motherboard.
