Sad Hi folks. I have an Issue with a 4850

Nevermind. I moved this question to the Graphics cards forum.

Re: Hi folks. I have an Issue with a 4850

The Catalyst panel shows my temp at about 3 degrees cooler than the Gatewatch panel. so it is probably more like 58 or 59 when it starts incessantly beeping. I think the stock cooler is the problem as I can't believe that 2 cards would have exactly the same issue. I really need to find the best cooler I can for it. I have ordered some arctic silver and I will try that. That stuff usually drops the temp by at least 5 degrees. I really don't have the spare cash to put in water cooling or I would. I'm also not sure if I could fit water cooling into the case and I don't like external radiators.

that is weird because mine runs (with this hot weather) at 70 degrees idle.
I even adjusted the fan speeds so it will increase rpm sooner then it was on stock, otherwise it would be even hotter.

The 4850 are notorious for running hot. I think the cooler isn't working well, it might be that the thermal paste wasn't applied correctly or not enough, you might want to check that.
It might be that the temperature sensor isn't working well, because the card is nowhere near overheating at 62 degrees.
There is the 3rd possibility that your card is defective.

Easiest thing to check first is the cooler and thermal paste. BUT, if you take the cooler of, replacement of thermal paste is as good as necessary!!

You can run AtiTool to adjust the fan speeds, this might improve the high temperatures as well.
Not sure if fanspeed can be adjusted in the official ati control panel..

It shouldn't give the message it is overheating at 60 degrees. Mine runs idle at 60..

I would suspect a faulty sensor on the board.. that the real temperature is much higher and that is way it is saying it is overheating. Could be there is no thermal paste at all on the card..
