ATI x700 display issue with vista

Hello. I have an Acer laptop with a x700 ati card. I was told that the Catalyst 9.3 was the latest version which supported my card. I mobility modded it and changed changed my OS to Windows 7. Now when I want to display to an external output (my LCD TV), the 1920 x 1080 resolution is recommended but does not work. Conection is through VGA cable. Is this an outdated driver problem or something to do with OS compatibility with the graphics card? Pls help or advice. Thanks
