Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

For start, i would like to say hi to everyone since its my first post.

I will try to describe my problem as much detalied as possible.

I am currently runing on a HP nx9420 notebook(ati mobility radeon x1600) with Windows 7

Since Hp graphic drivers werent updated since January 2008 and i have a reason why i want the latest available drivers on my notebook i tried to update them. Currently Windows 7 found their own update for drivers without me even downloading from HP site but they downloaded that January 2008 driver. Since i cant update my catalyst the regular way i tried with MobilityDotNet. When i install catalyst 9.1 or any older one, my driver keeps the version from that January 2008. Today i tried with 9.11 catalyst and when i install it in my Device Manager under graphic card info says:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Driver date is 11/4/2009

So my question is why doesnt my graphic card accept those drivers...

Re: Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

Hi and welcome to DH.

Did you download regular or legacy Catalyst drivers? Ati has discontinued support for DX9 cards so if you tried ordinary Catalyst 9.11 instead of these drivers, that should be the problem.

Re: Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

First of all, thank you for answering on such a short notice

Indeed i didnt try with Legacy ones....downloaded

9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu
and
9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd
from
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

I will edit and update just after i try with those

EDIT:I will just say, thank you very much. Finally i can play Modern Warfare 2....i cant believe i failed at downloading legacy drivers since i always downloaded old ones from that site.

Once again thank your very much!

Re: Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

I seem to have a slight problem including Catalyst(TM) Control Center in a way i cant opet it. And if i am not runing on a max resolution i get black edges filling the rest of the screen...i believe its overscan / underscan option but i cant change it since i cant opet CCC

Re: Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

I think that I remember someone with the same problem (CCC not opening) and that the solution was to completely uninstall ATI software, reinstall and reboot (found the thread).

As for the resolution, I really don't know.

Did you update latest vcredist for your OS? You can find it on Microsoft web site.

Regards.

Hi,
could you explain what you mean by vcredist? I installed msxml6, if that makes any sense...

Re: Issue with updating Catalyst 9.11 on my x1600

I think that he meant Visual C++ redistributable, but, as far as I remember, the Catalyst Installation procedure should update it on it's own if necessary.

Maybe silly question but you did use the Mobility Modder on them right? Also make sure you use the 9.11 LEGACY drivers.

the 9.11 legacy doesn't exist. Now is available only 9.3, 9.6, 9.9.

Yea they do exist although they are based on the 9.3. You can't use anything past 9.3 of the actual Catalyst drivers with the X1600. The thing about the legacy is they will provide critical updates if and when needed. After installing I have the CCC again and show a driver date of 9/29/09. The big issue for most folks is the loss of CCC after using the Windows update service. The legacy 9.11 will get the CCC back for you. Here is link for legacy 9.11 :
