Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.12 Suite for Windows Vista/7

They seem good, still not sure about 1280X1024 on a CRT but get 1600X1200.... Go figure At least it's better than being stuck at 1024X768. CCC seems less "buggy" too.

Ran a first place finish in Dirt 2 demo with no issues..... Guess that's okay.

I had downloaded the 9.12 drivers yesterday (and installed them). Do i still need to install that hotfix? In file's name it says "Dec15" and the release date of the drivers on the official site of ATI is 17.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.12 Suite for Windows Vista/7

Stay with the normal 9-12 driver unless something in the hotfix notes apply to your system. Hotfixes may not have been tested quite as thoroughly as standard packages and could therefor contain other issues.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.12 Suite for Windows Vista/7

Yes there is an uninstall utility

EDIT: I was able to get 1280X1024 on a CRT with these drivers without a BSOD in Win7..... Yay!

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 9.12 Suite for Windows Vista/7

One little issue (minor) that I noticed.....CCC is not remembering the last menu you were in. Before, it always opened to whatever option settings you were in last in CCC, now it defaults to the Welcome category every time.

I only mention it because it IS a difference from previous drivers.

I just install the new CATs right 'on top' of the old ones. There is an un-install routine built into them.

It seems to me that anytime I see a post from someone having problems installing a new version it almost always includes something like "I un-installed the previous drivers with...", and after that it all goes downhill.

Also when I do a fresh install of an OS, I will always use the Mfgr's CD supplied drivers for the first install, as they will often include things that the monthly updates don't, then I will update then to the latest version.

It works fine on my system - remembers the last used tab correctly.

Be sure to UNCHECK the "Show this page on startup" box on the default page.

The Alienware M17 is a laptop. If I understand correctly, you have a mobile ATI card in that rig. And, if so, you need to use the Mobility Modder to install any updated ATI drivers that you download from ATI. ATI does not support mobility cards "out of the box". It is up to the laptop manufacturers to provide updated drivers.

The mobility modder is available here on HH for download and use.

You need to go to the Mobility Radeon support section of the site...
