My screen not scaling?
Hi all,
I just installed Win 7 after having troubles with my sound in XP. Win 7 seems to have fixed those issues, and I'm enjoying the new features of the desktop and such on my laptop. However, I do a little gaming and my laptop has an X600 so I usually need to play games like CSS and BF2 in a lower resolution, say 1280x800 or 1440x900. With both the drivers installed by Windows Update and the modded Catalyst 9.11 drivers don't scale anything under the native res on my screen. In addition, I see no scaling options under the CCC like I normally did in XP. So here is my question: Is there any way modify the INF file or my monitor's data file (cant think of the term right now) to force any of the scaling options to be available in the CCC? Would an older version of the CCC help? I guess this is a fairly common problem being as most laptops don't have build in monitor scaling.... ... Thanks!

Re: My screen not scaling?
The CCC menues have been reorganised recently and the scaling settings are a bit hidden. Here's a picture describing where you need to go to find them. Not sure if the setting will help your system but you can try.

Re: My screen not scaling?
yes mkk is right, go there to fix your scaling how u like, but the trick in win7 is u must set the desktop to a lower than native resolution. Unless you do that the option will remained blacked out.
so change res smaller set scaling options you would like set desktop res back to default then wen ever you play a game at lower than native res the options will be applied Last edited by [hobo]eclipse; Jan 23, 2010 at 07:44 AM. |

Re: My screen not scaling?
Well I don't have the options at all. Just tried lowering the desktop resolution but still did not find it. So if anyone here knows how to modify the INF or my display's EDID so the option will show up... I mean after all you guys are the creators of the mobility modder after all
I mean I know my VGA card is capable (like I said I got several scaling options In XP.)in the meantime I will try a couple older driver editions to see if it will fix it. Thanks

Re: My screen not scaling?
In order to actually make those options active, you have to change the Desktop Resolution to something OTHER THAN the native resolution of the monitor. This had me stumped for awhile, too. Until you do that, the options are grayed out. Several others have posted about it here and elsewhere.

Re: My screen not scaling?
Looks like the same problem as here. Changing resolution doesn't help. The scaling options are simply not there.

Re: My screen not scaling?
You can also try doing it while on Basic View mode:
-Go to the Quick Settings -Now into Notebook Panel Properties -Click on Resize the desktop to fit the display panel -Enable resize the desktop to fit the display -Choose either if you need it to keep aspect ratio or not I assisted a few people with this one a while back. I'm sure there's several, or more, threads on this around. |

Re: My screen not scaling?
Hi,
I have the same problem on my Dell desktop that it does not have the scaling option. It is not that it grayed out, the page does not exist at all. Tried with manufacturer's driver and ATI official driver 9.x and 10.1 and they are all like that. My Dell laptop(with Mobility 4570) has the scaling options. My desktop is with 4650 + Dell monitor and nowhere has such options. Both with Windows Vista 32 bits. I hate to play 4:3 games with fullscreen on 16:9 monitor so I really want the Preserve Aspect Ratio setting. The desktop is using VGA cable from the monitor, with VGA-to-DVI converter to connect to the 4650 display card's DVI socket. Is it because VGA does not support Preserve Aspect Ratio? Or is there anyway so that I can set the scaling option on the desktop? Thanks. |

Re: My screen not scaling?
I doubt it's the VGA cable, some monitors only allow one resolution. A lot of Dell's are like that.

Re: My screen not scaling?
Ok my brother used the VGA cable but in fact the monitor also came with the DVI cable.
Just changed it and the options are there now, cool. There is a also an "Enable GPU scaling" option where my laptop doesn't have. What is the difference between enabling it or not? Thanks Last edited by Nightsorrow; Feb 11, 2010 at 05:48 PM. |

Re: My screen not scaling?
Cool....... I didn't think there would be a difference but obviously there is.

Re: My screen not scaling?
Damn it the options are there but they are not working with Warcraft 3, it still make the 4:3 graphic wider to fill the whole 16:9 screen, no matter if I was using Preserve Aspect Ratio or Centered.
Looked around the CCC settings like Enable GPU scaling and the monitor's built in menu but with no luck. Tried with World of Warcraft Fullscreen mode and the non-native resolution scalings do work though, strange. My laptop using Preserve Aspect Ratio works well with Warcraft 3.
