Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
For the first time in over two months I've gotten that vertical line screen. The previous instances, though, were a Gray Screen w/ Vertical Lines. This instance was a Green Screen w/Vertical Lines.
And, what's really puzzling is that this happened NOT during my session of Star Trek Online, but, right at the end of....get this now... FREECELL! I had just completed another successul game and the cards all tumbled down and, just at they finished, I was greeted the GS w/VLs. I've been running GPU-Z, CPU-Z, and CPUID Hardware Monitor on my second display to monitor everything. There was never any overheating going on. And, certainly NOT during FreeCell. AND...what about this? ![]() No AVIVO support for HD5xxx Series? |

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
toshiba & sony didnt agree with ati making their official mobility drivers for their notebooks, so you cant blame ati but your notebook manufacturer.
on my hp notebook, also with the hd2600, it works perfectly. |

I heard about that, what's it all about, doesn't make any sense at a glance.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
It's about support..... If drivers other than the ones Sony (at'all) provides were used, a system may perform beyond what Sony deems "safe" for their hardware. So if everybody started using ATi drivers instead of Sony's recommended drivers, then ramped up the speed and burned up the lappy, Sony would either have to repair them or deny support for them.......

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
Oh... Well, I suppose it's about whether you want to give your customers the best possible experience (and those who buy laptops with discrete graphics have given you a fair amount of money for it), or you are looking to minimize the number of calls to the support lines. Though since they are obviously opting for the latter philosophy, they should have probably chosen a different branch, like selling anvils for instance, I hear they rarely break down, no tech-support calls at all. As it is, if a customer is interested in ever seeing anything more graphically sophisticated than the Aero interface, they have a strong message from Sony and Toshiba to steer clear of their products. A shame really, as I'm quite fond of Toshiba laptops.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
Just wondering if the 10.3's are any better than say the 10.2's which I have installed right now. Is it worth making the change over?

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
Unless you feel that performance is bad in some game you currently play or are having any other problems then you might wait for the next driver. They come out as often as every month so it's unnecessary to get them all if things are fine.

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
I dunno, I had problems with 10.2 drivers, flickering and such on second display, and those problems are gone with 10.3.
Sure you removed the old driver completely before installing the new? |

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
Thanks, I've reinstalled windows just to be sure but its the same. As soon as I change the clocks, even 1Mhz, the clocks drop to 157/300 and all hell breaks loose. If I don't change the clocks they chill at 725 / 400 and 1000 for mem and there are no problems with the displays.
I've also tried the beta drivers and have settled with the ogl4 preview set with no overdrive. The 10.3b drivers were really bad as they would bsod when I tried to start something 3d with dual displays. There is something going on with those and how they identify my displays. Maybe I was a little harsh before but I am really disappointed that this has not been completely fixed since the last time I played with ati and the then new 9.10 cats. I know overclocking is not something that is guaranteed but I should be able to make some use of it. For now its not something game breaking so I will enjoy an otherwise great experience with this beast |

Re: ATI Catalyst™ 10.3 Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7
I'm not sure, but I guess that AVIVO converter feedback goes here as well.
I wanted to shrink some recordings made with my camera and, since it's just a 640*480 video, I choose MPEG4 (DivX compatible). The problem is that the converter also processed the audio signal and not very successfully. 128kbps 44100Hz stereo mp3 was (automatically) used as the output format, but the resulting quality was extremely poor. It's probably worth mentioning that the source audio was 11024Hz 8bit mono PCM (which isn't exactly immaculate, but the result, despite actually having a higher bitrate, is right next to useless and makes the original look like a studio recording).
