I own 3 "legacy" cards : 9800XT, 9700pro and X1950pro.
both latest legacy driver's install fine on all 3 systems (win7 32bit) but after first restart both R300 cards show square like with stripes display and the machine is reactive and loads windows fine and i can recognize something that should be the mouse cursor in those squares and lines but nothing is distingishable. to solve the issue i need with both drivers on both machines to restart in safe mode and revert to the w7 built in driver which is basic to say the least. on the other hand on the machine with the x1950 i dont have any issues after the restart with both drivers. i was hoping to find a like mobility modder tool that would add the legacy cards. appreciate any insight into the matter. |

Re: ATI Catalyst R300 Legacy driver windows 7 32bit
I can't think of any other advice than to try some older driver. I'm not sure which driver I used with my 9800Pro, but since I think that it was even before 7 was officially released, I believe that it was just some Vista driver from those days. This page comtains the previous Vista/7 32-bit drivers. The page does not contain the legacy releases, but all the legacy drivers are just repacked 9.3s with new CCC, as far as I understand, so 9.3 and older is what you may want to try.
Good luck.

well tried installing the 9.3 and see where to go from there but that didnt go as planned as using the installer finished with exeptions driver didnt install and manualy gave no card under hd 2400 series for some reason... and last i checked the 9.3 is the last driver with Legacy cards incorporated so blah????
hmm could use a legacy modder app since from what i gathered its far more complicated them mod any nvidia package...and since the mobility modder works grate on new drivers with legacy mobile cards why souldnt it work with non mobile ones

Re: ATI Catalyst R300 Legacy driver windows 7 32bit
I checked 9.3 release notes (here) and they state 9500 through X1950 support, but if they won't install, better just try 9.2 or some even older set. I only tried the 7 betas for a very short while on that machine, but I'd previously had Vista on it for around a year, so, since both OSes use the same driver sets, there definitely are versions that work well.

Re: ATI Catalyst R300 Legacy driver windows 7 32bit
well ivanV i have seen that but for it to actually be correct for windows 7 well its not..
i have tested 9.3 till 8.12 and except for 8.12 none of the above even installed a driver or in manual mode even show avaiable whql driver or any lower then 2400 series, and finally the 8.12 installed but when installing the driver it lost sync with the monitor and after finished installing and did a restart showed the same squares the "LEGACY" new drivers give. like you i have had beta win 7 drivers installed and all even used vista drivers with r300 in the beta phases but final just wont eat them it would seem and only one that shows proper but is unstable is the built in WDDM 1.1 microsoft one and that is annoying since entire machine works just grate with 7 except for the graphics driver which causes bsods here and there and is basic at best.. another shame is the r300 should have at least 1 working driver then discontinue their support rather then posting legacy driver that doesnt even work in any way under win 7.... shame |
