Can't install any catalyst driver

I am running win 7 x64 Phenom 2 x4 4870, every single time I try to install a catalyst driver since i tried to update to the most recent i get the error,"Error opening file for writing: C:\ati\support\10-7_vista_64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu\microsoft.vc80.atl.m anifest" This happens for all versions I download as well as ones that I had archived. Any help would be awesome.

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

Have you tried running the install in Administrator mode? Right click and click on run as administrator.

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

Command prompt uninstall/install procedure

Log in as Administrator account

Go to accessories and open a COMMAND PROMPT WINDOW

Make sure you folllow the procedure and don't skip

Install/Un-install procedure for CCC @ command prompt environment:

Un-install ATI driver

Log in as administrator

@ command prompt execute the following instructions
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-REV_vista64_win7_dd_ccc_wdm_emu\Driver\BIN64 for 64 bit OS
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-REV_vista32_ win7_dd_ccc_wdm_emu\Driver\BIN for 32 bit OS

Type the command “atisetup.exe –uninstall”

This will remove the current or older ATI driver on your PC. Wait for the process to complete.

The Font will get big as the OS will revert to default VGA driver. This is expected or normal just as when installing windows for the 1st time.

Reboot your machine after the completion of the process

Install ATI driver

Log in as administrator

@ command prompt execute the following instructions
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-REV_vista64_win7_dd_ccc_wdm_emu\DRIVER\BIN64 for 64 bit OS
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-REV_vista32_ win7_dd_ccc_wdm_emu\DRIVER\BIN for 32 bit OS

Type the command “atisetup.exe –install – output screen”

This will install thew ATI driver on your PC. You will see DOTS on the command prompt terminal. Wait for the process to complete.

When done the ATI CCC installation log will come-up to detail the installation summary.

Reboot your machine

Configure your graphic settings when you log in.

Notes:

1) @ command prompt type ”ATIsetup.exe -?” it will give you the list options for the ATIsetup.exe installation program

2) 9-Rev is whatever revision of ATI driver you are using (i.e. 9-10).

3) Do the un-isntall to remove remnants of failed install process

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

I'm going to give it a shot tonight after work. I haven't had a chance yet to work it out, thanks for the tip though hopefully it will.

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

I don't know if I'm just being stupid but all im getting when I type in the first pathway is, "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I even tried installing from my cd and I got the same error, "Error opening file for writing: 'C:\amd\catalyst_9.4_vista_8.6_apr3\makensisw.exe' "

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

It sounds like a problem with your operating system and user permissions.

Are you logged in as an administrator?

If you are and are still getting the error, try installing to a different location. For example, if you have more than one partition, direct the installation to unpack to D:\ATI\..., or if you only have C, then C:\Program Files\ATI\... should work too.

Good luck.

Re: Can't install any catalyst driver

I'm glad I was able to help.

Probably some security settings for drive C got a little messed up so you no longer have the permission to create files and folders there. Right click C and select Properties and try to set your Security the same as in this picture:
