Screen flickers when playing Bad Company 2 and Modern warfare.
Anyone else have experienced this? I have a Asus ARES graphic card.

The problem is that when I play these two games, the screen starts to flicker once in a while. I have only experienced this kind of behaviour with these two games. And it only happens in multiplayer, not when I'm playing single player.

EDIT: I'm running Windows 7 64Bit. Check system specs for the rest of the specs.

Oh yeah, the games are Battlefield Bad Company II and Medal of Honor. I'm suspecting that there might be an issue with the games, since both are using same engine from DICE in multiplayer.

One thng to check is Catalyst AI in the 3D settings in CCC.

If it's set to ADVANCED, try setting it to STANDARD.

Also, what driver are you usung? If it's an older set, try installing the current ones. It could be that they addressed an issues like that without documenting it. The have been know to do things like that before

I am using the latest release. Catalyst 10.9
I will try to set it to standard since it's set to advanced.

This sounds awfully familiar.

Have you tried turning off Crossfire? Or even tried turning off Catalyst AI? I'm wondering if this is a profile issue, and trying these 2 things might narrow that down.

Couple things to try:

- if you don't turn off Crossfire, or turn off Catalyst AI instead try renaming the games exe file to a different name, such as bf2.exe. This will force Catalyst AI to load a different profile.

- I remember seeing somewhere fixes someone did to their settings file for the game (under the users Documents | BC2 | Settings folder), where they changed 3 things that helped them out. Inside the settings file there are 3 listings to change: set "Bloom" and "HSAO" to false, and if you really want to test things out set "DxVerson" to 9.

BTW, for BC2 put this on the end of your games shortcut: +fullproc . So, the shortcut should look like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2\BFBC2Game.exe" +fullproc

Apparently the game doesn't use all the cores of the processor, and this will force it too. It also seems to fix issues with crashing as well as some graphics issues.

Hi,

I have tried installing that as well, but it didn't help, still experiencing the flickering, where the screen goes back for a second or two then returns.

Hmm I don't have the choice Crossfire in the graphics meny with Catalyst 10.9 could it be that it dosen't fully support Asus ARES atm? Just wondering...

Here is a link to some CAT 10.10 BETA drivers. These I'm using at present with no problems. However, I don't have an "X" or Crossfire setup. But, these are being used and are getting positive feedback from several users.

We're expecting the official 10.10 drivers in a few days after the release of the HD 6xxx cards.

You'll get a prompt from Windows about installing these and you'll need to click on "Install anyway....."

Hi Eagle,

I had the flicker issue and I'm running a crossfire setup, 2*5770

To stop it I changed the bloom to low.

Changes I made to my settings.ini

Bloom=low
DxVersion=11
RenderAheadLimit=1
Fov=67

Hmm, seems like the flickering is gone. But it seems like I have another problem as well. When I'm playing Bad Company 2 I'm getting thrown out of the game all of a sudden and back to the desktop. No error msg or anything. This happend with 10.9 as well.

But I don't experience this problem in Medal of Honor. Only Bad Company 2.

Have you checked the Event Viewer for errors? Not all CTD's pop up an error on the screen.

Checked the Event Viewer last night, and couldn't really see anything there that was related to the graphic card.

What happened when you tried my suggestions for the config file to set Bloom and HSAO to False, and DxVersion to 9? Was it better or worse than doing what Trigger suggested?

Got better on Medal of Honor, but no luck with Bad Company 2.
Haven't tried DX9 yet, gonna try that when I get home from work today.

Hi,

When I used DX9 it works like a sharm. So either the drivers or the game is messing it up when I'm running DX11.

Anyway thanks for the help all of you guys.

Tried the latest release as well and it didn't help with the flickering. So I guess I just have to wait and see if it will be fixed in a later release.

Very strange that disabling crossfire/AI didn't work.
Try to force Vsync and AA on the driver level. IF they are both forced, try to disable them.

Okay I will try that as well. I tried the Alien vs Predator DX11 benchmark and I didn't experience these flickers in that benchmark. Gonna try Dirt 2 and see if I get the same problem there as well.
