Re: ATI Catalyst 11.8 Software Suite

Installed these after getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution, because every time I started a new game I'd get an error about low resources for my card. Before the 11.8 I was back on 11.5.

After installing 11.8 and rebooting I'd get about half a minute with full use of my desktop until getting a white screen and the computer freezing up. Did a hard reboot and went into safe mode to roll back the drivers on both cards.

First time rebooting after roll back the windows 7 boot up screen was stuttering badly, and after entering my password for my account it froze during the welcome load screen. Did a hard reboot, started windows normally, logged in fine, changed the desktop theme back to the aero theme from the high contrast(no idea why it booted up with that theme chosen for the windows but still had desktop background from original theme), and then decided to start up AMD VISION, got another white screen and had to reboot.

Went back to safe mode and uninstalled all drivers and AMD VISION again and cleaned out my registry, also ran malwarebytes just in case, only caught a few minor viruses.

I just finished downloading the 11.7 driver and vision software, don't have much hope that it'll solve my issue, but I'll remove this post if it does. Otherwise, any advice would be awesome, thanks.

No go on the 11.7, tried downloading just the 11.8 display driver, and using omega's ati tray tools in place of vision(catalyst). Been using driver cleaner with the Ati filter and the Ati CCC filter following their steps in the help file. Neither updating the drivers through windows or through catalyst install manager has gotten me better results.
Still when I reboot and log in during the welcome load screen the loading symbol and welcome will stay but everything else turns white.

Usually within 5 minutes of being on the desktop it will either freeze with a screen of vertical uniformly colored bars, or the screen will go black, my fans will kick into high gear, and in either case I have to do a hard reboot.

Considering I've cleaned out all the driver files and CCC files on my last installs without any better results, I'm wondering, is one of my cards dead? While I do have the desktop running, my temp gadgets read 50C idle on the XFX card and 39C idle on the Powercolor. Normal temps on both, but the XFX usually runs closer to the temp of the Powercolor, which 39 is cool for it. Before today the summer heat was keeping them both idle around 46-48C.

I do remember my roommate had a similar issue with his Sapphire HD 3870 Toxic, though he'd switched the vapor-x cooler out with a large heatsink with two small fans that clipped onto the heatsink. Ended up replacing his HD 3870 since no matter how far back he rolled the drivers there was no improvement. Even though he didn't have two cards in crossfire, his symptoms are quite similar to mine right now, but I dunno which card would be dead.

If anyone's curious as to how I'm able to post this with these issues, I'm currently running in safe mode with networking enabled.

Think I found the issue, reposting this in ATI cards section.
